The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle is safe from her half-sister, Samantha Markle’s lawsuit as a Florida judge has concluded that Meghan Markle cannot be sued by her sister for defamation over comments made in her CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey. The lawsuit came after Markle claimed that she grew up as “an only child in the family,” forgetting her half-sister, Samantha.
Her sister has demanded $75,000 in damages and claimed that the Duchess of Sussex lied about her upbringing as she grew up in a middle-class household with her sister. As per Samantha Markle, the two were really close until Meghan Markle got married to Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle was sued by her half-sister, Samantha Markle over her comments in her CBS interview with Oprah Winfrey and claims in an unauthorized biography Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Royal Family by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie.
In the interview, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that grew up as “an only child in the family,” completely ignoring her half-sister, Samantha Markle. This enraged her and she also decided to expose her “rags to riches” story claiming that the two grew up in a middle-class household. She claimed in the lawsuit that her half-sister damaged her reputation.
A judge has ruled that Samantha Markle can’t sue her half-sister
A judge from Florida, however, has ruled that cannot sue the Duchess of Sussex for defamation as Meghan Markle “cannot be held liable for statements in a book that she did not publish” and that telling Oprah Winfrey she “grew up as an only child” is not “falsifiable as a protected opinion.”
Samantha Markle claimed that her half-sister lied about being the “only child” in the interview as the two share the same father. She also claimed that Meghan Markle was lying when she said the last time she met her half-sister was “at least 18, 19 years ago and before that, 10 years before that.” However, her plan has failed.
The Oprah Winfrey interview shook the world
The interview Samantha Markle mentioned in her lawsuit shook the world. Back in 2021, the couple made an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show and criticized the Royal Family. They revealed that the members of the royal family made racist remarks about their child, Archie.
Markle further felt alienated as everyone ignored her mental health issues. It got worse when Kate Middleton made her cry during the week of her wedding. They explained that the family stopped supporting them financially after they stepped down from their duties. This specific interview further damaged Prince Harry’s relationship with his family.
