Marvel Cinematic Universe for MCU might have several of the most popular and commercially successful superhero films,  but not everyone is a fan of the tons of different superheroes, their stories, sequels, and the multiverse concept. Various highly regarded veteran Hollywood directors have also shared their views and opinion on the MCU film franchises.

After Martin Scorsese compared the Marvel films to a theme park back in 2019, Francis Ford Coppola also seems to have the same line of thought regarding the studio and its projects as he opened up so recently.

Hollywood Director Francis Ford Coppola Expresses Low Regard for MCU Films

This year’s Barbie and Oppenheimer also called together ‘ Barbenheimer’ experienced huge success without being prequels or sequels of any other pre-existing hit movies. Taking this fact, Francis Ford Coppola recently shared his views and feelings about the whole via his Instagram account.

According to him, Barbenheimer’s success was a victory for Cinema as whole these days, sequels, and prequels of already popular films dominated the movie scenes.

With that, in an interview in 2019, when asked about his thoughts on MCU which is filled with connected stories in the same universe or the multiverse, Coppola said,

“A Marvel picture is one prototype movie that is made over and over and over and over and over again to look different.”

Furthermore, he does not seem to have any interest in doing so with his films despite the success of the Godfather trilogy, the veteran director expressed he does not plan to expand it any further. As for his upcoming project, Coppola is preparing for Megalopolis which is going to release next year.

What Did Martin Scorsese Say About MCU Films?

Back in 2019, veteran director Martin Scorsese opened up about his thoughts on the MCU and the hoards of superhero films produced by the studio. In an interview with the Empire Magazine, he revealed about trying the films which ended up not being up to his taste. Moreover, he also described the billion-dollar franchise films saying they were not what he considered “Cinema”.

According to Scorsese, Cinema was supposed to express “emotions and psychological experiences to another human being”. And the closest thing that the MCU films ever came to was to a “theme Park” according to Scorsese.
