Tom Holland’s candid confession On Purpose With Jay Shetty
The Spider-Man actor Tom Holland appeared on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast where he revealed his alcohol addiction and the moment he decided to make a change in his life. He said,
“I’m happy to say it — I was definitely addicted to alcohol. I’m not shying away from that at all. It’s interesting. I didn’t one day wake up and say, ‘I’m giving up drinking.’ I, just like many Brits, had a very, very boozy December … I’ve always been able to drink a lot.”
He later noted that he decided to take up the Dry January challenge but all he could think about was having a drink, adding that he was waking up and thinking about it, he was checking when it was going to be 12 p.m., and it really scared him.
The actor further mentioned that he decided to extend the challenge until his birthday in June and said he was the happiest he had ever been in his life. Holland added,
“I could sleep better. I could handle problems better. Things that would go wrong on set, that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter… I just sort of said to myself, like, ‘Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?’”

Tom Holland says he wants to encourage people to drink less
In his podcast interview with Jay Shetty, the Spider-Man actor noted that once he started to see the health benefits of him not drinking he felt that cutting off alcohol is the best. He added,
“I don’t want to be that person who’s saying ‘You should get sober, you should get sober!’ If I could encourage someone to drink less, that would be great.”
Tom Holland also revealed that looking at him being sober, his mother also decided to get sober and about that he said his mother is loving it and it’s been amazing for them adding that he cannot believe the difference he feels from not having to drink.
During the conversation he also revealed that even though he is a massive fan of making movies; he is not really a fan of the industry, adding that it isn’t for him. Holland confessed,
“The business really scares me. I understand that I’m a part of that business, and I enjoy my kinds of interactions with it. But that said, I am always looking for ways to kind of remove myself from it, to kind of just live as normal a life as possible.”
Further in the conversation, the actor noted that several of his friends have lost themselves in the industry and he is afraid that it could happen to him too, which is why he keeps reminding himself not to lose himself to the industry.
He noted, “I’ve seen so many people come before me and lose themselves, and I’ve had friends that I’ve grown up with that aren’t friends of mine anymore, because they’ve lost themselves to this business. I am just really, really keen to focus on what makes me happy, which is my family, my friends. It’s my carpentry, my golf, the charity that my mom runs.”
Tom Holland’s rare comment about his relationship with Zendaya
Tom Holland and Zendaya have been a private couple with other than a few outings together and some social media posts. The two of them have kept their relationship away from the media and the audience, so when Jay Shetty asked Holland about his relationship on the podcast he said,
“I try my best to keep it as private as possible. We both feel like that is the healthiest way for us to move on as a couple, so I do try to keep as removed from Hollywood as possible.”
The actor shared the same sentiment when he appeared on the SmartLess podcast and said, “I’m lucky that I have someone like Zendaya in my life. You can share your experiences and all that sort of stuff. And that’s worth its weight in gold.”
Zendaya recently clarified the rumors of them being engaged by stating that she was just trying to show off the hat she was wearing and not the ring she had on her right hand. She said on her Instagram story,
“I can’t post anything, you guys. I posted it for my hat. Like not for the ring on my right hand, you guys, seriously. You think that’s how I would drop the news? You think, like, what!”
She later posted a full picture of her to clarify what she was trying to show and thus ended the rumors of them being engaged.
