“Age is just a number”: Hugh Jackman Reacts to Fans Claiming Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer is Giving ‘Old Man Logan Vibes’
Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is one of the highly anticipated movies of 2024 coming from Marvel Studios. Helmed by Shawn Levy, the sequel to 2016’s Deadpool and 2018’s Deadpool 2, the movie is going to witness Hugh Jackman returning to his fan-favorite character of Wolverine after seven years.
Ryan Reynolds also serves as one of the writers of the movie alongside Rhett Reese, Paul Wemick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. The movie follows the story of Deadpool being pulled by TVA from his reality and sent on a mission alongside Wolverine which is going to change the history of MCU. Hugh Jackman who is thrilled to reprise his character on-screen after years reacts to the fans’ reaction to the trailer.
Hugh Jackman takes a dig at the Deadpool & Wolverine ‘old man Logan’ Easter egg
The newly released trailer for Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine features Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in full length. The trailer focused on Jackman reprising his fan-favorite character and joining Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool on a mission, which reportedly is going to change the history of the MCU.
CBR mentioned that fans have pointed that the trailer shows how TVA’s comment on how ‘this Wolverine let down his entire world’ suggests that there could be more than one variant of Wolverine in the movie. Wolverine dons his signature costume in the movie but fans noted that changes in the costume adds to the theory of more than one variant of the character. From his signature costume with shoulder guards to a sleeveless costume hints to the presence of multiple variants of Logan in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Apart from multiple variant theory, a user online (@NewRockstars) decided to share their opinion on the trailer, noting that the movie is giving ‘Old Man Logan vibes’ to which the actor replied by commenting
“Age is just a number. Someone once said,”
The scene showcased by the user in the post is a scene where Deadpool confronts Wolverine in a bar and points a gun at Wolverine’s forehead. The X-Men star attempts to reply by drawing his claws, which unfortunately do not pop out, which is something the fans point out has happened in the Old Man Logan comic book as well. Old Man Logan is an alternate version of the character, which is an elder version of Logan set in an alternate future universe designated Earth 807128.
Ryan Reynolds says it was Hugh Jackman’s interest in returning that made Wolverine’s return possible
Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool in the movie, shared back in November 2022 that Jackman will be returning to his fan-favorite character after seven years. During an interview with Collider at the time, he said,
“I don’t believe that I’m responsible for Hugh’s coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige was when Disney bought Fox years ago. I’m not sure. It was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie. And that was not possible at the time.”
The actor further mentioned that Jackman happened to call and express that he would be interested in coming back and playing Wolverine one more time. Reynolds noted that all he did was convey the message to Marvel President. He also said that it’s not like adding Jackman to the movie is like a hard sell, pointing that it’s an immediate and emphatic, unqualified yes.
Reynolds, who has been friends with Jackman for a while, notes that working with the actor is like a dream come true, adding that working with Logan and having Logan and Wade together is beyond any dream. The plot of the movie has been kept under wraps, but the actors have described that they are very excited for the audience to see the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine comes out on July 26, 2024.
