Alexander Skarsgard Speaks of Challenges He Faced During Big Little Lies Filming
Playing the part of an abuser is very tricky. Alexander Skarsgard had his apprehensions before taking on the show but his friendship with Nicole Kidman helped both the actors give their level best.
When Skarsgard was on the Kyle and Jackie O Show of KISS FM, he talked about the difficulty and challenges he and Kidman faced when filming intense scenes of the show.
“Nicole and I had some time together to build up that trust before shooting those scenes which was crucial to have because again, some of them are very violent and very physical and very psychologically draining.”
As Skarsgard pointed out, shooting such loaded scenes, eventually can take a toll on the actor shooting the pair eventually worked their way around it. Giving Kidman complete credit for their on-screen chemistry, he said,
“I mean, it was extraordinary to work with Nicole. She’s not only an incredible actress but she’s also like the most lovely and generous and sweet woman. So of course, shooting those scenes was horrible. Absolutely horrible.”
Playing a character like Perry Wright was not easy, it traumatized Skarsgard to a certain degree.

Big Little Lies was Not Easy for Alexander Skarsgard
Nicole Kidman’s choosing not to have a body double for the abuse scenes certainly did not help Skarsgard get over his discomfort with shooting such scenes. He was doing all the physical assault scenes with the real Nicole Kidman, who had become a friend of his during the show. It did sort of ease him into it knowing Kidman and him share that kind of trust. But at the same time, he would really rather work with a body double than shove his co-star in the nearest wall.
“She is incredibly committed and we did have a body double, like a stunt double on set, for you know, when I throw her over chairs and stuff and when it gets really violent, and Nicole wanted to do it herself.”
Nicole Kidman’s commitment to acting became a horrifying experience for Alexander Skarsgard.
