More on Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Trial
The defamation trial was filed by Johnny Depp after his ex Amber Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post back in 2018. In it, Heard identified herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. The former couple separated back in 2016.
Following this, the UK’s news publication The Sun called out Depp as a “wife-beater” in an article. All this led to Depp suing his ex for defamation. The trial began three years after he sued Heard on April 11, 2022. After weeks of their high-profile trial, the case was concluded on June 1st.
The jury favored Depp’s side of the trial and he was rewarded with 10 million dollars (to be paid by Heard) for damages and 350k dollars for punitive damages. Heard was also rewarded with 2 million dollars for punitive damages.
