Anya Taylor-Joy: The 15-Minute Action Sequence That Took Over 200 Stuntmen Shows “How resourceful Furiosa is”
Anya Taylor-Joy made her television debut with the detective drama series Endeavour and has since graced the big screens multiple times. From the sci-fi horror film Morgan to Netflix’s period drama miniseries The Queen’s Gambit, the actress has showcased her proficiency time and again.
Taylor-Joy will now be seen in the lead role of Furiosa in the eponymous movie by veteran George Miller. The movie is a prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Recently, the actress revealed that a 15-minute-long action sequence in it proves how “resourceful” Furiosa is.
Anya Taylor-Joy on the 15-Minute-Long Action Sequence in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
The Mad Max franchise began in 1979 and has four films so far. However, the lengthy delay in the production of the fourth film Mad Max: Fury Road led to the makers replacing the titular actor Mel Gibson with Tom Hardy. The movie turned out to be the highest-grossing in the franchise.
Charlize Theron played the lead role of Imperator Furiosa alongside Hardy’s Max in the dystopian action film. A prequel/spin-off to the film initially named Stairway to Nowhere set 15-20 years before Fury Road, will explore Furiosa’s origin story with Anya Taylor-Joy playing a younger version of Theron’s character. Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth will star as Warlord Dementus.

In an interview with Total Film, The Menu star revealed that there is a 15-minute-long action sequence in the movie. She explained the importance of the scene, saying:
“It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit.”
The actress said that it took them 78 days to shoot and required 200 stuntmen. It was the longest scene that they had shot, and when they finished shooting it, everyone got a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine to celebrate.
Chris Hemsworth on the Unique Thing He Did to Get into Character
Chris Hemsworth has appeared in plenty of action movies in his career, with his role as the Marvel superhero Thor dominating most of it. However, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will not be just another action movie in his filmography as he is an antagonist in the film, which will be an interesting take to watch.
To get into his character, Miller advised Hemsworth to journal. The Rush actor said:
“George suggested to me to journal as the character, which I hadn’t done before. It was 2am one night. I was awake, and I just put pen to paper, and just started scribbling down thoughts and ideas as Dementus.”
Fortunately, it worked as whatever Hemsworth had written in his half-asleep state helped shape his character as Dementus. The movie also stars Tom Burke and Alyla Brown and will see Furiosa exact vengeance while also trying to escape back to her homeland.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be in theatres from May 24, 2024.
