“Avatar Meets Marvel”: MCU Boss David Maisel Announces ‘The Ekos Universe’ Inspired From James Cameron’s Avatar
The Marvel world has truly been able to capture fans from all over the world since its creation. With tons of superheroes and supervillains, fans get to have a range of characters with superhuman powers who are all justice-minded to choose from and get interested in.
And after David Maisel brought the Marvel Universe with its various characters into the screen with the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2000s.
Although he left MCU back in 2009, on the 15th anniversary of Iron Man (2008) recently, Maisel announced that a new universe is on its way called the Ekos universe.
Marvel Studio Founding Chairman David Maisel Announces a New Universe
Unquestionably, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is one of the most successful and popular studios in the world at the moment. The way all the characters of the Marvel comics have been interwoven and the multiverse has fans hooked into them for a long time. Its founding chairman David Maisel brought many of the late comic artist Michael Turner’s work into the screen.
However, Maisel left Marvel Studios in 2009. And now he seems to be focusing on introducing another universe to the people. Recently as the 2008 film Iron Man reached its 25th year, he introduced the upcoming Ekos Universe.
This comes under Maisel’s Mythos studio which he co-founded with Scooter Braun ban on 2018. The latter has since left the studio but in its place South Korean Entertainment label Hybe has taken up the share. Apart from that the studio has multiple stakeholders that include billionaires, gaming corporations, etc.
As for the Ekos universe, this will be based on some of Turner’s work as the name suggests. The name ‘Ekos’ is derived from a comic created by Turner and Geoff Johns back in 2003. According to Maisel, Ekos is where “Avatar meets Marvel” As per Hollywood Reporter. He explained further,
“Ekos will focus on the wonder and awe of this planet,”
Although some are skeptical about this idea in a world already filled with various universes, the fact that he created the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no doubt has his back on this one.

It all started back in 2003 when David Maisel came up with the idea of Marvel Comics having its studio for releasing its movies. According to him, he came up with the idea and after getting the green light he was also made the overseer of the films.
The first to come out of the studio was Iron Man (2008) since then, MCU has never looked back trudging forward with its different characters and multiverse concept. However, Maisel left the studio a year later.
