Bambi: The Reckoning – After Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Fans Prepare for Horrifying Retelling of Disney’s Bambi on Rabies after New Update
From the same people who brought on the dark retelling of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey that split Disney fans, comes yet another blood-curdling take on a wholesome character from the same animated universe, Bambi: The Reckoning. There is little information known about the movie so far. After wrapping up Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions seem to be extending the lore of children’s tales to horror, even after getting mixed reviews from the audience for their first attempt to do so.
Recently, it was confirmed that Bambi: The Reckoning is starting filming soon and netizens are not stopping from giving their two cents on the horrifying ordeal.
Bambi: The Reckoning will start filming soon and fans are losing their minds
Recently, @poohbandh posted on X about an interesting development regarding Bambi: The Reckoning. The filming will start in three days, on January 6, 2024. The cast and crew are hoping to wrap it up soon and move on to a dark Peter Pan parody called Neverland Nightmare. When talking to The Hollywood Reporter in November 2023, producer Scott Jeffrey revealed that the original plan was to shoot the Peter Pan movie first but the creatives decided to make Bambi the priority.
“We were actually meant to be shooting Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare but we weren’t quite ready with the script. I was meant to direct Bambi but switched to Peter Pan as it’s more my style. I’m pushing Peter Pan until April, and Bambi starts shooting in January. So we’re very much prepping right now. It’s going to be wild.”
Many fans are giving a side eye to the project. Again, it has become a situation like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, where the audience cannot decide if they love it or hate it. Check out some of the fan reactions below.

According to Jeffrey, they have no plans to stop the horror parody universe they are building within Disney. He even wants the characters to interact by throwing in Easter eggs from one movie to the next.
“That’s definitely the plan. And I want them to interact with one another. There’s going to be Easter eggs in Winnie the Pooh 2 about two films that have not been announced yet. Just a little tiny wink. Same in Bambi. They’re very much connected, but it’s not in your face. And then later down the line, I guess when we run out of ideas, is where they’ll start meeting one another.”
At the time of the film’s announcement, Jeffrey gave an idea of what was to come in the upcoming movie to Dread Central.
“The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!”
He also revealed that it will be inspired by the Netflix horror movie The Ritual and gave a synopsis of sorts.
“Reuniting after the tragic death of their friend, four college pals set out to hike through the Scandinavian wilderness. A wrong turn leads them into the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where an ancient evil exists and stalks them at every turn.”
However, it is to be noted that Scott Jeffrey is no longer directing the movie. Dan Allen would take his place with a screenplay from Rhys Warrington. Still, one can hope Dan Allen will preserve most of Scott Jeffrey’s vision for Bambi and this whole horror universe.
Who are the people behind Bambi: The Reckoning?
Bambi: The Reckoning will be directed by Dan Allen, who is famously known for the Unhinged remake, 2019’s Mummy Reborn, and 2021’s It Came from Below. Another Unhinged alumni, Scott Jeffrey, is producing the movie alongside Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey writer-director Rhys Frake-Waterfield.
While the crew of Bambi: The Reckoning has a rich horror pedigree, the cast is mostly from outside the horror genre. Tom Mulheron, who will be playing the son, has appeared in Black Mirror, Slow Horses, Inside No. 9, and Casualty. Nicola Wright has also appeared in a variety of titles, such as Top Secret! and EastEnders. Samira Mighty has appeared in the popular reality show Love Island season 4 previously.
The most known cast member of the lot is Roxanne McKee, who has appeared in Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines, in 99 episodes of Hollyoaks, 11 episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones, the 2014 mythological movie The Legend of Hercules, and many more.
Bambi: The Reckoning is expected to drop in theatres around February 2024.
