Barbie Star Ryan Gosling Regrets Doubting His “Ken-ergy”, Thanks Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig for Showing Him the Way
Fans are super excited to enter Gerta Gerwig’s Barbie world for quite some time now. The stellar cast has only added to that. Every little girl’s childhood companion Barbie is now coming to life thanks to Gerwig, with Margot Robbie as the iconic Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
Although the La La Land actor is known for his versatility as an actor and has already proved his ability to take on a variety of roles, from the romantic leading man to the intense and brooding anti-hero. But how will he embody the sunny, upbeat personality of Ken? Turns out, Gosling initially doubted his capabilities to bring Ken to life, but a little push from Gerwig and Robbie helped him to believe in himself.
In his latest visit to Las Vegas for the Warner Bros CinemaCon presentation, he talked about his process and thoughts that led him to this wonderful journey, he is now grateful for.
Ryan Gosling thought he lacked the “Ken-ergy” for the role
One can only imagine that Ryan Gosling will bring his trademark charm and charisma to the role, making Ken the ultimate dreamboat for Barbie. After all, it takes more than just a pretty face to be the perfect companion to the world’s most iconic doll. One thing is for sure, he will have to put in some serious work to get that plastic-perfect physique. But people on the internet have no doubt that he’s up for the challenge. Fans are also hopeful that they will even get the opportunity to witness him busting out some of Ken’s signature dance moves.
But in a recent visit to LA Warner Bros CinemaCon presentation, he confessed he had doubted his abilities before taking up Greta Gerwig’s offer. Turns out he wasn’t as sure, as the audience is with him. Thanks to his co-star Margot Robbie and director extraordinaire, Greta Gerwig for giving him a little nudge when needed to put him back on track. He revealed,
“I didn’t see it, but Margot and Greta, they conjured this out of me somehow,”
He then further continued,
“It was like I was living my life and then one day I was bleaching my hair, shaving my legs and wearing bespoke neon outfits and rollerblading down Venice Beach.”
Gosling joked about how fast the process was that he didn’t have the time to comprehend all the things happening around him. He said,
“It came on like a light scarlet fever—Then I woke up one day and was like, ‘Why is there fake tanner in my sheets? What just happened?’”
The actor then expressed his gratitude for getting the opportunity to work with such a talented bunch. Gosling said,
“To work with this group — they’re all brilliant, and it was so exciting, and then to be conjured in such a way was really special,”
Gosling has been consistently impressive in his ability to tackle any role with finesse. People can’t wait to see what he brings to the character of Ken.

Ryan Gosling sympathizes with the Ken-doll
The actor also previously revealed his real reason for saying yes to the movie, Barbie. Just after Gosling broke the internet with his sensational pictures as Ken from the sets of the movie, he visited on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the audience was eager to hear what the actor has to say about the situation. He then went on to share his thought’s the internet’s reactions to the viral pictures,
“I was surprised how, you know, some people were, kind of, clutching their pearls about my Ken as though they ever thought about Ken for a second before this.”
The actor then proceeded to express his grief about the character that always gets outshined by Barbie and is never as enjoyed as the main star. He exclaimed,
“They never played with Ken,–Nobody plays with Ken, man.”
He then narrated the moment he realized he has to say yes to the role so that the millions out there can earn the truth about Ken’s reality. Gosling narrated,
“Best script I’ve ever read. I walk out in the backyard and you know where I found Ken, Jimmy? Face down in the mud next to a squished lemon.”
His daughter’s mistreatment of the almost invisible character with zero personality and backstory other than being Barbie’s boy toy compelled the actor to text Gerwig back with,
“I shall be your Ken. For his story must be told.”
So let’s all raise a plastic pink champagne glass to Ryan Gosling and his upcoming portrayal of Ken. Fans can’t wait to see him bring this classic character to life in ways one could have never thought would be possible. In addition to that maybe he’ll also end up teaching the people a thing or two about what it means to be the ultimate “Ken-doll”.
