But little did he anticipate that his ghost from the past and dark desire would be waiting for him. Season five will star Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, and Griffin Matthews. In the teaser, Joe Goldberg’s past and current love interests, including Guinevere Beck, Love Quinn, Marienne Bellamy, and Kate Lockwood, appear. He is heard saying,

Hello, you. Do you remember me? ‘Cause I remember you. Here we are together again, back to where it began. A lot has happened these many years together. Identities, cities, love, complications.

He adds, that all of that has led him back to where he was always meant to be. The stakes for the finale season are higher compared to other seasons, especially after witnessing Joe and Kate Lockwood teaming up together in the season four finale. It is, however, not clear who the ‘you’ Joe Goldberg is talking about in the teaser is, but looking at his patterns for four seasons, it seems he is talking to someone who is not Kate.

Fans took the chance to share their theories about the final season, with one person writing, ‘What’s the plot twist you guys are expecting? Mine is Becky still alive’. Another user wrote, ‘Becky coming back would be wild! Season 2 was definitely the peak, though. Let’s see what they cook up.’

A third user mentioned, ‘Jenna Ortega is going to come back and avenge her sister.’. A user noted, ‘The only one that can work is Love being alive still.’ The series is scheduled for a 24th April 2025 release.

Penn Badgley describes You’s Joe Goldberg as ‘a villain’

In his interview with NME in 2023, Penn Badgley, who was highly praised for his work on the show as a single-minded stalker and serial killer Joe Goldberg, describes his character as ‘a villain.’. He added,

But I think he becomes an antihero in a culture obsessed with villains, you know? And that’s a troubling line that’s blurred.

Season five is going to see Nava Mau of Baby Reindeer joining the cast, and in talking to Radio Times, she shared that she’s very happy that she gets to be a part of the show. She further shared that she is grateful that she gets to work with Madeline Brewer, adding that it was just phenomenal to shift gears and create a new character completely.

The actress noted that she has never done a project like You that is so plot-driven before. Mau mentioned that she got to build a single sort of location that the character lives in. The leading actor spoke to Netflix and mentioned,

Every season they manage to find new space to make it interesting and relevant. And this season, I think somehow coming back to where it started allowed for it to just become grounded in the way that it needs to also have this kind of spectacular finish.

The executive producer, Michael Foley, noted that they always said that they would stop after five, and in a perfect world, they would bring back Joe to New York, his home. He mentioned that they loved the idea of things coming full circle for him, and they are excited to see Joe coming back home as a different person than what the audience saw in Season 1.
