“Big fear of flying”: Henry Cavill Almost Played Superman Way Before ‘Man of Steel’

Henry Cavill has slayed the role of Superman for years, but it was in his fate way before he was cast in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. The Witcher star revealed that he was looked at closely for the role of Superman even before Man of Steel came out.

Before the Zack Snyder movie, Henry Cavill was supposed to play Superman in another movie. However, Clark Kent isn’t Cavill’s future now as the actor has finally departed from the role leaving fans disheartened but the Enola Holmes star undeniably did an incredible job and earned a huge fanbase.

Henry Cavill has finally bid farewell to his Superman role which he got from Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. Many will assume that it was Snyder’s movie that advanced Cavill’s career as Superman, but this is incorrect. Cavill was considered the mighty Kryptonian hero years before Snyder cast him in Man of Steel. Cavill revealed that it was the director of Rim of The World movie, McG who planned to do a Superman project with Henry Cavil. The Sand Castle star elaborated on this incomplete project via Comic Book Movie:

“I don’t know how close I came. I understand it was very, very close and sadly the movie was canceled because McG didn’t want to fly. He certainly had a big fear of flying at the time; I think he’s since overcome it. He wanted to shoot in New York, they wanted to shoot in Australia for obvious reasons. He said, ‘I can’t do it,’ and they moved on. These things happen. It’s the nature of the business.”

Cavill explained why the movie was called off and why things didn’t go well which eventually led to the cancellation of the project and he was finally cast as the iconic Superman in Snyder’s movie. Even though fans cherished the character played by Cavill and they still do, he was a bit insecure if he looked right playing Superman.

Fans went crazy for Henry Cavill after watching his portrayal of Superman and were extremely disappointed when they got the news of Cavill’s departure from his iconic role. However, this was something the Night Hunter star never dreamed of. Henry Cavill was insecure that he might not look as good as Superman and wouldn’t be able to make it to the Snyder’s project. According to Entertainment Weekly Cavill recalled:

“All I could think was: ‘Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: ‘You’re not ready! You’re not ready”.

These thoughts erupted because Cavill had lost the aspired physique he thought he needed to be Superman as he co-starred with Bruce Willis in a movie. But now Cavill won’t be playing Superman as DC Studios wanted a younger Superman to fit in James Gunn‘s plan and chose David Coreswet instead.
