Blade’s MCU Debut Inspired Marvel to Completely Revamp His Personality to Meet the Contemporary Times
Blade is a fictional character created by writer Marv Wolfman and penciller Gene Colan for Marvel Comics. He first appeared as a supporting character in The Tomb of Dracula #10 and later ventured into having his own storyline. The character uses his unique physiology to become the perfect vampire hunter.
The character will soon make its’ Marvel Cinematic Universe debut after being portrayed by Wesley Snipes in Blade trilogy and by Sticky Fingaz in Blade: The Series. Now, actor Mahershala Ali who debuted in an uncredited vocal cameo in 2021’s Eternals, will be portraying the character in the MCU movie scheduled to release in 2025. Mahershala Ali reveals he’s encouraged by MCU’s Blade’s direction
Actor Mahershala Ali who is currently promoting his Netflix’s Leave the World Behind will be playing the character of Blade in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming Blade. The actor addressed the highly awaited question about Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade during a conversation with EW. He said,
“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”
He continued to share,
“I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”
After years of delay in making in addition to the production being delayed once again due to WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes, Blade finally has a date for release i.e., November 7th, 2025. Filmmaker Yann Demange is going to direct the movie from the Gene Colan, Michael Green and Stacy Osei-Kuffour’s screenplay.
Stars including Aaron Pierre, Mia Goth, and Delroy Lindo will star in the movie alongside Mahershala Ali. It has been reported that actors Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, John Boyega and Idris Elba showed their interest in playing the character but it was Mahershala Ali who got the opportunity.

MCU attempting to give Mahershala Ali’s Blade‘s personality a twist
According to reports by Screenrant, MCU is planning to give Blade’s personality a classic twist in regards to the modern era. The character is described as funny as well as a stoic person who will now have a personality with a touch of modern era.
The makers believe that with time the characters on paper and later on-screen should evolve into being more than what they were initially. Concluding that the personality of the character needs a little bit of change to match the change.
Marvel is not only shaping the character to be bad** on screen but also be give him space to be vulnerable when needed. It was noted that the makers now feel that they are now ready to peel the back of the layers of the character which is how they decided to give his personality a twist.

Actor Wesley Snipes who played Blade earlier, back in 2021 praised the actor for taking up the role. He said he is aware that Mahershala Ali’s Blade will be great as the superhero vampire. Mahershala Ali said during an appearance on The Breakfast Club;
“Man, you know, I’m humbled and so encouraged by that. Because he didn’t have to say that. So, for him to come out and say that as somebody I look up to so much, I sincerely appreciate that. Thank you, brother.”
Blade is expected to be released on November 7th, 2025.
