Brett Goldstein On What Led To The Making Of Ted Lasso

The sports comedy-drama Ted Lasso has won hearts across the world. During an appearance on Variety’s Actors On Actors segment, the 43-year-old writer and actor Brett Goldstein was asked about how he ended up writing Ted Lasso. He said-

“I’d done a pilot for Bill Lawrence. The pilot didn’t get picked up, but we stayed in touch, and he knew I was a writer as well as an actor. When people ask me for advice, I’m always like, there’s no magic phone call. It doesn’t happen. But I did get a magic phone call here, from Bill, out of the blue, saying, “I think you’d be good for this football show.”

James Theo interrupted as he was more interested in knowing about Shrinking and how he ended up dividing his time on his projects. Brett Goldstein said-

“Someone asked me, “What’s your secret?” The secret’s I’m fucking insane. The secret is my brain has to be that busy, otherwise I go nuts! I would do “Ted Lasso” in the day, and then at night, I’d be on Zoom with “Shrinking” and watching rushes or in the writers’ room on Zoom. You did the “Divergent” films. Those are big bananas. Was that overwhelming and terrifying?”

Brett Goldstein was not lauded for his writing and performance in his sports comedy Ted Lasso but even went on to earn multiple accolades for the show. With an IMDb rating of 8.8 out of 10, Ted Lasso can be streamed on Apple TV+
