Cillian Murphy Has a Very Specific Condition for Peaky Blinders Movie: “Then I will be there”
Irish actor Cillian Murphy has transformed into one of the most highly acclaimed actors in Hollywood, who began with shorter roles to eventually starring in a Christopher Nolan movie.
However, before Murphy played the titular role in last year’s blockbuster, he received immense commendation for the Peaky Blinders series. Following its glorious success, the actor opened up about reprising his role in a movie, only if the script is unique and compelling.
Cillian Murphy Will Only Agree To Peaky Blinders Movie on One Condition
It’s nearly impossible to even think of someone else playing Thomas Shelby in a Peaky Blinders movie. Throughout the entire series, Cillian Murphy owned the character, making fans obsessed with the British crime drama. Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons, featuring the violent criminal gang with Murphy as the resilient leader suffering from PTSD. The Inception star was blessed with an expanding fanbase soon after Tommy became his iconic role.
However, there are plans for a Peaky Blinders movie, and guess what? It’s not confirmed whether Cillian Murphy will reprise his role. The film is developed by Steven Knight, and while talking about his potential return as Tommy on the show with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, he said:
“If there is more story to tell, and if Stephen Knight delivers a script like I know he can, then I will be there. I mean, if we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let’s do it.”
So, after facing every significant challenge post World War I Great Britain, Cillian Murphy will only return as Tommy Shelby if he finds Knight’s script intriguing enough. Considering the conclusion of Peaky Blinder in the last season, the makers left Tommy’s future open-ended, making it easier for the actor to reprise the role in the future.
Peaky Blinders Movie Likely To Disclose What Tommy Shelby Chose
The Peaky Blinders film has been confirmed but still requires an official title that might arrive when the makers decide. However, there has been a little revelation from Steven Knight that explains that the upcoming movie will focus on the story of the Second World War, also depicting Thomas Shelby’s guilt and redemption.

At the end of Peaky Blinders, Tommy is left with two significant choices: Revenge or let the world believe his death. However, viewers didn’t get the chance to witness the gang leader’s decision, and for that, the upcoming movie is expected to serve the answer. According to Radio Times, Knight said:
“I’m always interested because with the Second World War there was so much going on and so much death and destruction, that lots of things happened that didn’t really make it into the history books. So it’s those things I’m focusing on.”
Knight also shared that they’ve almost completed the script, and the production is expected to start in the middle of 2024. The complete cast members detailed are currently under the warp, but there have been claims that Tom Holland is joining Peaky Blinders. Apart from him, Cillian Murphy might also show u at some point in the film. However, the official announcement about the cast is yet to arrive.
