Director James Gunn had a significant vision for an actor who would play Superman in the upcoming film. His search succeeded when he finalized David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. The actor has a stunning physique and appealing features, making him the best choice to secure the superhero role.

Not only is he the perfect choice to play the superhero, but Corenwet will also make every other Superman look smaller since he’s the tallest! While Henry Cavill is 6’1, David Corenswet is 6’4, so he had trouble fitting in the costume that Cavill wore in the previous films. As envisioned by the director, the Pearl actor possesses every element that Gunn wanted for his rebooted DCU.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating Superman: Legacy, which becomes the debut film of James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s new DCU. With a new take on the narrative of the last son of Krypton, Gunn wanted a new actor to play the role who could stunningly depict Superman. The director previously revealed what he looked for in an actor whom he would love to cast as the Man of Steel. In an interview with Instagram, the Guardians of the Galaxy director said:

“It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

And now that he has found everything in David Corenswet, James Gunn revealed that the actor struggled to fit in the Superman suit that Henry Cavill wore in his films. However, this wasn’t unexpected as Corenswet is taller than every actor who played the role, and since he’s sculpting a steel-strong physique, it’s evident that David Corenswet will slay his Superman costume.

Even though Henry Cavill will always remain in fans’ hearts as one of the best Man of Steel, Corenswet casting has also excited them. In the comic books, Superman and Lois Lane have a significant height difference, and considering the difference between the actor and Rachel Brosnahan‘s height difference, the upcoming live-action will be nothing less than a virtual treat.

James Gunn hasn’t revealed details about the Superman costume that David Corenswet will have, but following the Instagram Thread that the director posted about David Corenswet’s “hard time fitting”, filmmaker Dan Marcus revealed something that has excited the fans about the Superman suit. He wrote on X (earlier Twitter) that:

“Not that this matters at all, but I heard from a friend who is working on LEGACY that the Superman suit is not gonna be what we’re expecting and is very curious about how fans are gonna react. Take that for what you will.”

Following the post, fans couldn’t stop expressing their anticipation to witness Corenswet as Superman:

While James Gunn isn’t spilling the tea about the costume, a fanart on Instagram shows David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and looks stunning. Unlike the other Superman films, this upcoming project will focus on Clark being early into his superhero journey.

Superman: Legacy will come out on July 11, 2025.
