DC Films President Confirms Amber Heard Was Almost Replaced in Aquaman 2
There must be hardly anyone who isn’t aware of the ongoing Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial. This case has taken over every major news in Hollywood. The Aquaman star has claimed that she is a victim of the abuse whereas fan-favorite Captain Jack Sparrow actor has denied the allegations. The trial changes its course with each passing day and it truly feels no less than a full-fledged movie. This defamation lawsuit has impacted the professional life of both celebrities in the worst way possible.
Despite Depp’s backlash, Amber Heard has remained publicly detached from any projects. However, news has recently spread that her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been drastically reduced. Now, Warner Bros. DC Films President Walter Hamada has testified about how the disagreement may have impacted any conversations about Heard’s position in the comic book film franchise.
Heard was almost replaced in Aquaman 2
The Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial is still underway, and thanks to Warner Bros.’ President of DC Films, Walter Hamada, appearing on the stand, new information regarding the actress’ participation in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has been revealed. When asked if there were ever delays for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom while recasting Amber Heard’s role of Mera, Hamada replied, “Yes, there were,” and that “conversations about potentially recasting… [caused] a delay of probably weeks.”
He said that the discussion of recasting was prompted by “an issue of chemistry” between Heard and the lead actor, Jason Momoa, and not by the continuing feud with Johnny Depp. Warner Bros. allegedly considered if it “would [be] better off recasting” to find someone with “more natural chemistry with Jason Momoa.”
“It was the concerns that were brought up at the wrap of the first movie, the production of the first movie, which is the issue of chemistry. ‘Did the two have chemistry?’ I think editorially, they were able to make that relationship work in the first movie, but there was a concern that it took a lot of effort to get there, and would we be better off recasting, finding someone who had better, more natural chemistry with Jason Momoa and moves forward that way.”
Hamada also acknowledged that no official measures were taken to audition replacements. He went on to say that the recasting discussions “[were] all [because of] concerns about whether she was the right fit of casting for the movie,” and that Amber Heard’s feud with Johnny Depp “[did not play into it] from [their] end.”
