DCU CEO James Gunn Makes Groot the New Superman in Insanely Viral Art
James Gunn, the Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios surprised fans with his recent Instagram activity. With DC studios gearing up for a new era under Gunn and Peter Safran’s supervision, many await what happens to the screen-adapted version of the DC comics universe.
Gunn has been quite active on social media as of late. Acknowledging fan edits, answering questions, etc. has kept the fans involved. The American filmmaker shared fan art depicting Groot as Superman; fans can’t get enough.

Groot as the New Superman
The performances of recent DC projects have been less than excellent. And it has gone through major changes since then. For one, James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken on the role of Chief Executive Officers and they are working on a revamp of the film franchise.
In this state of reformation, the stakes are high for the films. Superman: Legacy, which was announced, will kickstart the DCU. And plans and assumptions for the film often make rounds in different corners of the internet. One such idea reached Gunn and he posted it on his Instagram story as a nod of acknowledgement.
Instagram user @thedailykryptonian shared their take on Groot in a Superman costume, saying it would be great to see the partner of Rocket Racoon in Superman: Legacy.

While this is a great prospect, this would entail a Marvel x DC crossover. Groot being one of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Superman as the last son of Kryptonite is surely a dynamic combination but just how much of it is possible is debatable.

What Could James Gunn’s Sharing the Fan Art Mean?
Oftentimes, artists drop hints and clues for their fans to pick up on. But, that’s not always the case. James Gunn’s sharing the fan art could just be him appreciating the fan or hinting toward some sort of crossover between the characters.
This fusion brings together two of the most fan-loved franchises from the superhero world. Gunn, known to create the world of Guardians of the Galaxy can surely make this happen in one way or another. But it is tough to say how things will go if it happens.
Even as the crossover would be nothing short of thrilling, it seems unlikely that it would happen considering the high level of competition between Marvel Studios and DC Studios, which has been there forever. But then again, you never know.
Superman: Legacy is set to hit theatres on July 11, 2024.
