Eminem and Michael Jackson both have a massive fan following, however, both musicians belong to very different genres. Where Michael Jackson is known as the king of pop, Eminem slays at his diss tracks. A diss track is a song whose primary purpose is to verbally attack someone else, usually another artist.
The rap god once targeted the music legend Michael Jacken and wrote a diss track in which he mentioned his life. In 2004, Eminem released his single Just Lose It, which created a lot of controversy at the time. In the track, Eminem mentioned some sensitive incidents in Jackson’s life, which included his child molestation charges and plastic surgery.
“I am very angry at Eminem’s depiction of me in his video. I feel that it is outrageous and disrespectful. It is one thing to spoof, but it is another to be demeaning and insensitive. I’ve admired Eminem as an artist and was shocked by this. The video was inappropriate and disrespectful to me, my children, my family, and the community at large.”
Jackson didn’t sit silently after Eminem’s verbal attack as three years later he retaliated in a very unexpected way.
How did Michael Jackson react to Eminem’s diss track?
Michael Jackson is not just known as the King of Pop for his namesake; he indeed held the power of a king during his time. When Eminem targeted the music legend in his track, he probably had no idea where this audacity could lead. Being upset by Eminem’s diss track, Jackson did something that was never expected by the rap god.
Jackson bought the rights to Eminem’s whole music catalog as an act of retaliation. Jackson had a partnership with Sony/ATV, the company that owned the rapper’s music; hence, he bought the catalog for a staggering $370 million.
However, even though Jackson wasn’t happy with Eminem’s diss track, the king being the king showed his greatness by not altering the lyrics of Just Lose It.
Jackson owned the rights to Eminem’s music until he died in 2009. Although, in 2016, Eminem bought the publishing rights back for his music.
