Despite Robert Downey Jr’s Repeated Denials Iron Man Might Return as to MCU to Fight Avengers Level Threat in These 3 Marvel Movies
Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced many superheroes, like Captain America, Black Panther, and Thor. However, Iron Man has always been the heart of the franchise. The role played by the famous Robert Downey Jr. has captivated fans for many years. The first Iron Man film, which came out in 2008, launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The 58-year-old gained popularity among both comic book fans and the general public with the role of Iron Man by showing his acting prowess as one of the greatest in the business. Iron Man became one of the most enduring characters in the MCU, thanks to Robert Downey Jr., who played the character for 11 years. The actor’s role in the franchise came to an end in 2019, with his character ultimately sacrificing himself to save the world from Thanos. Avengers: Endgame marked the end of Iron Man’s story. Since then, fans have constantly been theorizing how the fan-favorite hero could return to MCU. Here are three movies through which Iron Man could return to the MCU:
Armor Wars
Armour Wars, the War Machine solo film starring Don Cheadle, will honor the legacy of Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man with a plot that has Rhodey charged with recovering advanced Stark technology that has fallen into the wrong hands. The character War Machine has played an important role in Iron Man’s life, and there could be no other storyline than this to show the return of Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.
Iron Man won’t probably be making any kind of present-day cameo in Armour Wars because it currently doesn’t involve the Multiverse or time travel element. However, he might still surface in a flashback or as an AI voice scene.
The Iron Man spin-off was originally planned as a Disney+ series before being upgraded to a big-screen blockbuster. And with this shift, the 58-year-old’s return to the franchise was made possible.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
With Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the Multiverse Saga will begin to culminate. The storyline focusing on Variants and alternate universes will start to come close with this film. Therefore, even if Tony Stark from Earth-616 has passed away, the crossover event will present a chance to introduce a different version of Robert Downey Jr.’s hero.
Fans proposed that Jonathan Majors’ Kang might create the Legion of the Unliving, as he did in Marvel Comics to battle the Avengers. These will bring together heroes resurrected and pulled from various periods.
There is also a chance of Iron Man appearing in Secret Wars, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty might provide a way for it. Downey Jr. could pop up in a post-credits scene in The Kang Dynasty to confirm his return to the MCU.
Avengers: Secret Wars
Avengers: Secret Wars, set to release in 2027, will conclude the Multiverse Saga. It is undeniably the most likely project for Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man to make his big comeback. By then, it will have been eight years and one Avengers film since his last appearance, making his comeback feel well-deserved.
Many fans are expecting Secret Wars to bring back many classic Marvel characters from the old Fox universe to the MCU and hopefully a few Spider-Men. The core of Secret Wars sees the heroes of many universes battling head-to-head.
There may be no better way to bring the MCU full circle than to have Earth-616’s Avengers square off against an alternate team commanded by Iron Man.
Robert Downey Jr. has long maintained a never-say-never stance toward a future MCU comeback, but the appropriate plot would be necessary for his return. The actor will likely not want to return merely for the sake of fan service but rather will want to see a plot that meaningfully supports his involvement. Additionally, Iron Man’s comeback probably won’t be confirmed, at least officially, until whatever project it comes in ultimately releases.
