Despite Will Smith Tainting Her Legacy, Serena Williams Ready to Release New Memoir After Illustrious 27 Years of Tennis Career
Serena Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion and tennis legend, created history when she decided to turn professional one month after turning 14. She not only broke down racial and gender barriers from the moment she stepped onto the court that was dominated by men, but she was also one of the youngest tennis players in the world. Before announcing her retirement in 2022, she, along with her sister, Venus William, was considered royalty.
Serena Williams is one of the biggest tennis stars and has won every major title. Now that she is retired, the legendary player is actively looking to release a new memoir. The biggest surprise is that its offers would exceed $10 million.
In 2009, Williams collaborated with a ghostwriter to publish the book My Life: Queen of the Court. Since that book was published, she has experienced many new professional highs, married a tech billionaire, Alexis Ohanian, given birth to a child, and even battled health problems.
Serena Williams Will Release A New Memoir
According to a publishing insider, there are “eight-figure deals on the table” for Serena Williams‘ memoir, which is currently “selling a memoir via [power literary agent] Suzanne Gluck at WME.”
A second source confirmed that a deal might have already been reached and that Williams’ team has been considering bids for several books at first. The retired tennis legend is seeking offers for a memoir, as was already mentioned above, and those offers may exceed $10 million.
Moreover, on Monday, she launched 926 Productions, a multimedia production company that reportedly already has a first-look TV agreement with Amazon Studios. The launch of her new multimedia production company suggests that Serena Williams is taking her career in entertainment seriously.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the company is working on a number of different projects, one of which is a documentary about the 1971 Women’s World Cup in soccer titled, Copa ’71.
“With the launch of 926 Productions, we aim to elevate female and diverse voices through content that speaks to everyone,” Williams told THR.
She Is Ready To Release A New Memoir Despite Will Smith Tainting Her Legacy!
Serena Williams avoided publicly mentioning or commenting on the events of the 2022 Oscars involving Will Smith and Chris Rock in the year following her retirement. However, 11 months later, she finally addressed the issue that had tainted the evening devoted to her family’s legacy in a CBS Mornings segment.
It was Will Smith’s first Academy Award, but what he took home that night was far more significant than the golden statue bearing the inscription ‘Best Actor’ on the plaque.
On the evening of March 27, 2022, the Oscars Slapgate, as it has been unofficially dubbed, not only tarnished Will Smith’s reputation but also succeeded in bringing Serena Williams’ name into the controversy.
However, Smith publicly later apologized to the Williams family, saying he “deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.”
Last year, 41-year-old Serena Williams announced her professional retirement from the sport.
Since then, she has claimed that she is “not retired“. But when asked about a possible comeback, she told Gayle King, “I’ve literally given my whole life to tennis, and it’s time for me to give my life to something else.”
This week, she teasingly hinted at a comeback to the court by sharing an Instagram photo of herself practicing tennis.
