A Complete Timeline of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s Chaotic Relationship
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s turbulent relationship details exploded in court during the former couple’s 2022 defamation trial. Depp and Heard first met on the set of their shared 2011 film The Rum Diary and despite being linked with other people back then neither of them denied having undeniable chemistry between them.
The couple married in a private island ceremony in 2015, but called it quits just 15 months later as Heard filed for divorce in May 2016. The pair reached a $7 million divorce settlement in 2016, but things turned nasty in March 2019, when Depp sued his ex-wife for defamation over a 2018 op-ed she penned for the Washington Post.
At the beginning of the court proceedings, the two started a series of bombshell allegations of physical, emotional, and mental abuse against each other. In August 2021, Heard’s plea to dismiss the defamation case against her was denied.
On June 1, 2022, the pair’s much-highlighted legal dispute ended in a verdict, with a jury declaring that Heard’s 2018 op-ed, in which she claimed to be a victim of sexual violence, was defamatory. While the trial was immensely stressful for Amber Heard, Johnny Depp jumped into filming Jeanne Du Barry.
