Elizabeth Olsen has a warning for anyone, who is interested in playing a role in the upcoming Marvel movies as the MCU continues to sign up big stars. The Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch admits to looking up to those actors, who often ask her for advice on how to work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Typically, actors who join franchises, like Olsen, accept contracts that tie them to their upcoming multiple films. According to the 34-year-old actress, if an actor can commit to just one film, they have more negotiating power to secure a better contract in the future.

Olsen has always been open about the advantages and disadvantages of being committed to a franchise for a long period of time. She expressed sadness over missing out on roles in 2022 due to her contractual commitments to Marvel projects.

The New York Times quoted the Oldboy actress as saying:

“It took me away from the physical ability to do certain jobs that I thought were more aligned with the things I enjoyed as an audience member. And this is me being the most honest.”

Elizabeth Olsen’s Advice To Future MCU Stars

Elizabeth Olsen believes that ‘Less is more’ for the actor considering joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actress divulged a juicy piece of ‘free Hollywood advice’.

According to the actress, who has played the unstoppable ‘Wanda Maximoff’, “some people” have contacted her about joining the franchise. That’s where, she responded with some advice, saying:

“Just give them one.”

Olsen is obviously referring to signing a contract for a single movie as opposed to the multi-movie deals that several Marvel stars have previously been forced into. The actor, 34, claimed that when some of her fellow stars inquired about joining MCU, she was inspired to offer the advice.

According to her, actors who join the MCU on a movie-by-movie basis are given “more control” over the course of their careers as well as more creative freedom.

There is no doubt that Elizabeth Olsen is knowledgeable in her field. Her Marvel character ‘Wanda Maximoff’ first made an appearance in a post-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014 before taking on a larger role in Avengers: Age of Ultron the following year.

Yet despite being with the MCU since Phase 2, Olsen is one of the few actors not to shackle themselves to the Marvel brand with a multi-movie contract.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Beyond

Elizabeth Olsen has expressed her willingness to return and excitement for Wanda Maximoff’s future, despite her frustration with the way Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness handled Wanda. It’s unclear whether fans will see Olsen in another MCU project any time soon, but she is still eager to work.

She would also appreciate the opportunity to take part in a new X-Men film if the team of mutant superheroes is indeed making a comeback. In an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show earlier this year, she also mentioned a long list of directors she’d like to collaborate with in the future, including Quentin Tarantino before he retires from The Movie Critic.

In the end, Elizabeth Olsen acknowledged feeling proud of the work she had done for Marvel and even was furious that her MCU obligations were preventing her from pursuing roles in independent films. She claimed,:

“I had job security,” but the actress admitted that it came at the expense of her other artistic goals. She further declared, “This is me being my most honest,” as she wrapped up her interview.

If Marvel tries to woo Olsen back for a WandaVision season 2 or any other The Avengers movie, she will be in a strong financial position. This is also largely attributable to the success of WandaVision and Doctor Strange’s success in the Multiverse of Madness.

Frequently asked questions

What advice did Elizabeth Olsen give actors thinking about joining the MCU?

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Olsen shared what she called “free Hollywood advice”: when actors ask her about joining Marvel, she tells them to “just give them one” film rather than locking into a multi-movie deal. She argues that signing for a single movie leaves actors with “more control” over their careers, more creative freedom, and stronger negotiating power for future contracts.

Why does Elizabeth Olsen feel multi-movie Marvel contracts can be limiting?

Olsen has been candid about the trade-offs of long franchise commitments. She told The New York Times that her Marvel obligations took her away from other projects she felt were more aligned with what she enjoyed as a viewer, and she expressed sadness over missing roles in 2022 because of those commitments. While she valued the “job security” Marvel provided, she said it came at the expense of some of her other artistic goals.

Will Elizabeth Olsen return as Wanda Maximoff in the MCU?

As of this article, no specific return was confirmed. Olsen said she remains willing and excited about Wanda’s future despite her frustration with how Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness handled the character, and she expressed interest in a potential X-Men film if the mutants make a comeback. Any talk of a WandaVision season 2 or a specific Avengers appearance remained speculative rather than confirmed.
