Marvel Studio’s latest release, The Marvels has been disappointing at the box office, to say the least. The movie was released last month on November 10 and focuses on how Captain Marvel the character played by Brie Larson has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and how she takes revenge on the Supreme Intelligence.

While it was expected that The Marvels would perform quite alright at the box office, that hasn’t been the case at all and it is quite obvious by how Disney and Marvel are handling the situation.

Marvel and Disney give up on The Marvels

The MCU has seen tremendous success over the past 15 years. The studio has four of the 10 highest-grossing films of all time. It’s safe to say that they are not accustomed to tasting failure. However, their recent release The Marvels is the studio’s first bomb in 15 years.

Just about a month since its release, it has been revealed that the film will be tapered off from the box office and will be by far, the studio’s lowest-grossing movie as it failed to touch $100 million in the domestic market and $200 million worldwide.

“With The Marvels box office now winding down, we will stop weekend reporting of international/global grosses on this title.”

Marvel expected Guardians of the Galaxy to fail

No production house ever wants its movies to bomb and Marvel is most certainly not one. So, the fact that Marvel expected Guardians of the Galaxy to fail is quite surprising. The new tell-all book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios has revealed that Marvel was expecting the movie to fail because Guardians of the Galaxy was very different from the projects that the MCU usually undertakes.

The only thing that kept the movie connected to the MCU was Thanos and an infinity stone that would later play a huge role. However, it’s safe to say that the production house was ultimately proven wrong as after releasing the first Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, two more parts of the film have since been released with the most recent one coming earlier this year.
