He has been successful in many areas, and the audience and critics have accepted him with open arms. Then why was he a part of a project that tanked at the box office? Let’s find out.

Tom Hanks appeared as Colin Hanks’ fictional father in The Great Buck Howard

Tom Hanks’ son, Colin Hanks, has appeared in projects including Rosewell, Band of Brothers, The O.C., Mad Men, Dexter, Fargo, and more. Colin Hanks was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for his incredible work on Fargo, which unfortunately, he couldn’t win. But back in 2008, the audience was excited to see the father-son duo share screen space for a project.

Tom Hanks portrayed a fictional father to Colin Hanks in 2008’s The Great Buck Howard, which, according to the critics, was a decent movie, but it failed to earn a collection at the box office. The movie only managed to earn around $900K but the fact that the actor had an opportunity to work alongside his son and play his father on-screen, he did not let that rare chance go away.

Tom Hanks weighed his thoughts on nepotism

Back in January, the actor had a conversation with The Sun about his family of actors, especially at the time when the debate around nepotism was lingering in the back of everyone’s mind.

The actor’s movie A Man Called Otto featured his son Truman Hanks and during the interview, he was asked about his son’s involvement in the movie in regards to the nepotism debate. Hanks said, “Look, this is a family business. This is what we’ve been doing forever. It’s what all of our kids grew up in. If we were a plumbing supply business or if we ran a florist shop down the street, the whole family would be put in time at some point, even if it was just inventory at the end of the year.”

Tom Hanks on turning down When Harry Met Sally

During a recent iHeart Podcast’s Table for Two With Bruce Bozzi, Tom Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson appeared and revealed the reason why Hank was not a part of 1988’s When Harry Met Sally after he was offered the movie.

She said, “People probably don’t know this, but Tom was offered When Harry Met Sally, and he turned it down because he was going through a divorce and he was very happy not to be married. And so he could not understand that a person going through a divorce would have anything other than just like, ‘I’m so happy.’”
