Shakira and Gerard Pique were together for 12 years after their split up in June 2022. The breakup came as a shock for fans. The former couple share two kids who are now living with the singer. It has been more than a year since the pop star split up from Pique. While her ex-boyfriend has already moved on with Clara Chia Marti, the Hips Don’t Lie singer is still searching for a potential match.
Shakira has opened up about her struggles in dealing with the breakup. In a recent interview, she revealed the hardship she had to endure simultaneously with Pique’s betrayal.
The La Tortura hitmaker reflected on finding out that the former soccer player had betrayed her shortly after her father, William Mebarak Chadid, ended up in the hospital due to an accident. The mother of two said,
“He went to Barcelona to console me after I was consumed with sadness because of my separation. He was gravely injured in an accident. Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart. I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.”
She believed that she was not going to survive the hardship laid before her during that time. The queen of Latin music previously revealed how her mother, Nidia Ripoll Torrado is her partner in crime, and her 91-year-old father is her best friend. The pop star said,
“The man I have loved the most in my life, my father, was leaving me when I needed him the most. I couldn’t talk to him, or go to my best friend for the advice I needed so much.”
Shakira survived her breakup with Pique, and her father is in recovery. A few months after announcing her split up with Piqué, the Colombian singer collaborated with Argentine producer Bizarrap on the song BZRP Music Session #53, which had detailed lyrics regarding their breakup.

Shakira and Gerard Pique met on the set of the Waka Waka music video. The track was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. During that time, the FC Barcelona defender caught the singer’s eye.
The former couple, after many dating rumors, confirmed their relationship on social media in 2011. The Hips Don’t Lie singer stunned in a red gown as she and Piqué made their first public appearance as a couple at the 2011 FIFA Ballon d’Or Awards gala in Switzerland. In 2012 they announced their pregnancy and welcomed Milan Piqué Mebarak on January 22, 2013.
In August 2014, Shakira announced her second pregnancy as the duo welcomed Sasha Piqué Mebarak on January 29, 2015. After having a perfect life together the former couple announced their separation in June 2022. It was rumored that Pique cheated on Shakira with Clara Chia Marti. The rumors were never confirmed, but the footballer moved on with Chia Marti after his split up from the singer.
Shakira is still single and is speculated of dating Lewis Hamilton.
