Blomkamp keeps updating about the sequel to District 9
Even before District 9 premiered, Blomkamp was already seen talking about its sequel. ” Successful – if audiences want another, whatever, District 10 – I would love to do it. It’s a very personal film, and it’s a universe and a place that I find incredibly creative. I’d love to go back to that universe.” The climax to the film rose the probability of a sequel, anyway. After the release of the film, Blomkamp claimed to have been working on the next project but never came out. It was only after over 20 years, that the director chose to speak up on Twitter. It suggested that he is planning to move ahead with the writing of the script along with Sharlto Copley assisting him.
In a recent interview, to discuss Off The Grid- Blomkamp’s unique royale battle game. The director said,” I am still working on it…the answer is it’s within the near future.” These timely updates from the director only lead fans to be excited more. Would Copley return?
In an interview, a few months later, the director also mentioned, “There was a topic in American history that the second I realized that that fit into the world of District 9, it felt like an awesome way to do a sequel. So yeah, it continues to be developed and it’s getting a lot closer.” He later elaborated, “saw a documentary about a well-known socio-political topic two years ago and that had a massive effect on me– it made me understand how this sequel could have a real reason for existing. The second that clicked, I just began working.” Thus, it could be safe to assume that the story might continue after where it stopped in District 9. It is also possible to have Copley return as Wikus van der Merwe because he will be co-writing the plot, but it is not confirmed yet.
