The Fast and Furious franchise has captivated audiences for over 20 years with its adrenaline-fueled action and family bonds. But, according to recent reports, the upcoming 11th installment may take things back to the franchise’s roots. Slated for release on April 4, 2025, Fast and Furious 11 will allegedly have a budget of $200 million or less – a stark contrast from the nearly $300 million spent on 2015’s Furious 7.

Will Fast and Furious 11 Be Vin Diesel’s Last Ride as Dominic Toretto?

An inside source close to the production said, “The goal is to wrap up the saga in a lean and mean way.” This streamlined approach will aim to capture the lower-budget, grounded feel of the original 2001 film that started it all. Jeff Sneider at The InSneider also hinted this could be franchise star Vin Diesel‘s last hurrah as beloved protagonist Dominic Toretto.

“It will likely be Dom Toretto’s ‘one last job’ movie,” they revealed.

This falls in line with Diesel recently stating there would be just two more films after 2022’s Fast X. And while his comments seemed to imply at least one more chapter beyond Fast 11, the insider says the next film is being approached as the grand finale.

“If ‘Fast 11’ does indeed prove to be the final entry in the series, Universal may not have [Jason Momoa’s] ‘Fast X’ villain Dante Reyes as the primary antagonist,” said Jeff Sneider of The Ankler, “instead opting to introduce a new one.”

With the franchise potentially wrapping up, fans have wondered if major characters last seen in earlier installments could make triumphant returns.

Sung Kang’s Han, who “died” in 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift but was retconned alive in later films, seems a likely candidate. Gal Gadot’s Gisele was presumed dead in 2011’s Fast Five, but death has rarely been permanent in these films.

Vin Diesel and The Rock from Fast and Furious
Dwayne The Rock Johnson announced that he will not be playing any role in F&F saga after his feud with Vin Diesel

And Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs, who sat out Fast X due to his real-life feud with Diesel, could bury the hatchet for one last ride with Dom’s crew.

“Anything can happen,” said director Louis Leterrier of the open-ended conclusion to Fast X. “All characters could return, and everyone in Hollywood is eligible to show up.”

While plot details remain tightly guarded, one thing is certain – Fast and Furious is intent on ending its legendary run by echoing its street racing roots. And that final lap could bring back fan favorites long thought lost in the franchise’s dust.
