Leighton Meester was born in 1986 to Connie and Doug. Meester’s mother, Connie, was arrested in 1985 for smuggling 1,200-pound shipments of marijuana out of Jamaica in 1983 and for being a part of the smuggle-ring of her then-boyfriend, Doug (Meester’s father). Meester was born in a prison hospital, and post-delivery, Connie had to serve her imprisonment term for sixteen months. Meester was raised by her grandmother.
The actress spent her childhood in Florida where she eventually united with her parents once again but then she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her passion in acting. In a US Weekly report (via New York Magazine), Connie talked about her daughter and said, “She’s very gifted, she’s very talented, she’s very intelligent. I love her dearly.”
