It has been over a year since Warner Bros. shelved Coyote vs. Acme. The decision was met with much resistance, as fans expressed their disapproval about shelving yet another movie; the scars from the shelving of Brendan Fraser’s Batgirl are still fresh regardless of how many years have passed.

Looney Tunes is one of those animation franchises that were started during the golden age of American animation. The franchise was kickstarted with a series of short films released over three decades until 1969. A revival followed in the late 1970s and new shorts were released until 2014. In fact, it might come as a surprise to some that it is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

That said, a trailer for The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (via YouTube) has recently been dropped and it is equal amounts of chaos and manic. Veteran voice actor Eric Bauza will voice the characters of both Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. Other voice actors include Peter MacNicol, Wayne Knight, and Laraine Newman.

The upcoming buddy comedy film focuses on Daffy Duck and Porky Pig as they try to save the Earth from an alien invasion. They find out about a secret alien mind-control plot as a result of their shenanigans at a bubble gum factory. In an attempt to stop the invasion from happening, they end up messing everything up and putting the entire world in danger.

The only way out is together so even though they struggle to make peace with each other’s absurdity, they fight against all odds to stop this extraterrestrial threat. Whether or not the cosmic antagonist Marvin the Martian will make an appearance in this film remains to be seen as of now. The buddy comedy trope and vibrant visuals along with the iconic characters are enough to keep the viewers hooked.

This movie is getting the chance to achieve what Coyote vs. Acme could not because Warner Bros. decided to shelve it. A Looney Tunes movie seeing the light of day and getting a worldwide theatrical release is a historic moment for the franchise and its fans.

According to Deadline, its world premiere happened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June. Critics had nothing but praise for the film after watching it. The CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, Gareth West expressed his excitement, saying:

For generations, the Looney Tunes have held a soft spot in the hearts of fans the world over, including my own. It’s a true pleasure to bring into theaters Peter Browngardt’s hilariously smart, emotional, and gorgeously rendered story for fans and movie lovers of all ages to experience a wholly new and original cinematic adventure with our friends, Porky and Daffy.

Plenty of animated movies have been released this year, and most of them have performed quite well. 2025 opening with this one is going to be a treat for the fans. Hopefully, it will be able to spark the interest of new fans as well.
