The heartthrob of Full House, John Stamos, has recently admitted to temporarily removing Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen from the show in the 1980s. But why? God forbid because they were acting like children.

It’s true! When the young twins wouldn’t stop crying during the filming of a scene where he and Dave Coulier’s Joey were supposed to be watching them, the much-loved Jesse (John Stamos) of the family sitcom finally lost his cool.

On the Good Guys podcast, the actor admitted that he had the Olsen twins taken off the show because their constant crying was driving him crazy. Stamos was interrupted by one of the twins screaming during the filming of a scene in which Jesse and Joey were changing Michelle’s diaper.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are two of the most well-known actors who began their careers as child actors and became well-known for playing Michelle Tanner on Full House.

Why had John Stamos Fired The Olsen Twins From Full House?

When the show first began filming, Elizabeth Olsen’s twin sisters ‌were 11 months old. At John Stamos‘ request, the producers had them fired and two kids with red hair put in their place. The podcast conversation became even more complicated when Stamos alleged that the replacement child actors weren’t cute enough or, to use his own words, “attractive“.

He continued by saying that they had only been on set for a short time before he told them,“Bring the Olsens back, these kids are terrible.” Maybe there wasn’t a problem with the kids after all.

The producers kept switching the babies and promising that they wouldn’t cry, according to Stamos, who expressed his frustration. To quote him:

“They were 11 months old, and god bless them. They kept switching: ‘This one’s not gonna cry.’ I couldn’t deal with it. And I said, ‘This is not gonna work,’ and I screamed it 10 times. I said, ‘Get rid of them, I can’t work like this.’ And so they got rid of them. They bring on these two redheaded kids… I’m sure their parents loved them and thought they were attractive… It had nothing to do with [them being] redheaded, but they weren’t attractive.”

The Olsen twins were asked to return by Stamos after he claimed the red twin replacements were unsuitable for the show. “We tried the other kids, but it didn’t work,” he continued, “It was a day or something.”

Responses From Fans

In spite of these incidents, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen continued to play the baby of the family, Michelle Tanner, for the entire eight seasons of the show. Also, they are still two of the most recognizable characters from Full House to this day.

Following the statement by John Stamos, fans responded by making memes about the behind-the-scenes incident.

For the unversed, the twins turned down the chance to return for the Netflix adaptation of the hit comedy, Fuller House, in contrast to Stamos and other co-stars. Some of them include the late Bob Saget, Lori Loughlin, Dave Coulier,  Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and others.

Following the conclusion of Full House, the twins co-starred in a number of films and television programs, including Two of a Kind, So Little Time, Holiday in the Sun, and New York Minute. However, don’t expect to see them anytime soon on a big screen.

After being off camera for more than ten years, Ashley Olsen reportedly no longer felt at ease in acting. On the other hand, Mary-Kate Olsen claimed the timing was not appropriate for acting.
