The upcoming sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will feature multiple CGI sequences over 8 minutes long of the Titans doing “their own thing,” director Adam Wingard told IGN in an exclusive interview. After teaming up in 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, the iconic movie monsters will reunite against a mysterious new foe. Wingard, the only director to helm multiple MonsterVerse installments, said he felt fully prepared to raise the stakes this time.

According to IGN, one smiling reptile making a comeback is Titanus Doug, the bulldog-like creature that first appeared briefly in Godzilla vs. Kong. The monster earned its name from fans on social media before Wingard later confirmed it.

“It’s a character I think people have ownership of just because they kind of made him viral,” Wingard said, noting Doug has “a lot more screentime” as a key player.

While Doug returns, Wingard also teased a “Kong-type” new villain he described as “devilish.” The ape-like adversary will challenge both Godzilla and Kong as a formidable foe.

“We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really hard to do,” Wingard explained, promising more details to come.

With new threats on the horizon, Wingard knew teaming up Godzilla and Kong once again was essential. “You just can’t separate these two guys again,” he said. “It’s too exciting having them in one movie.”

An exact premiere date for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has yet to be announced. The director promised some sequences could run over 8 straight minutes of elaborate creature animation. It will be a true larger-than-life motion picture spectacle coming soon to a big screen near you.
