Greg Daniels Abandons Reboot And Wants to Make a Spin-Off For The Office
When we hear the name of the hit show The Office, the first thing that pops into our minds is the exciting and engaging storyline that attracted all the TV show lovers to binge-watch it. The cast includes Steve Carell who’s still lauded for slaying the role of a regional manager, Rainn Wilson who played a dedicated, fun, and ambitious assistant, John Krasinski who entertained us with his ranks as a salesman and other acclaimed actors.
There were talks about the reboot of The Office but the creator Greg Daniels has finally revealed his thoughts about it. He mentioned that he won’t be crafting a reboot instead, will work on a captivating spin-off just the way the Star Wars franchise did. According to TheWrap Daniels said:
“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot, you know what I mean? Because I feel like we ended that story beautifully. The characters had closure. I would never want to redo that same show with a different cast, because I think we got the luckiest cast, the best cast ever, in TV, to do that show. So the notion of a reboot is not of interest.”
The creator shed light on the cast and acknowledged being lucky to have them. It’s difficult for him to envision a new cast and a different storyline for The Office which is unique in its way. Greg Daniels expressed the desire to create a spinoff similar to the Star Wars spinoff shows.
The Office Creator Greg Daniels Wants to Follow Star Wars Tradition
Star Wars indisputably is an incredible franchise that never fails to upset its hardcore fans through spinoffs and shows. Greg Daniels seemed to be inspired by it and openly expressed a desire to follow in its footsteps. While explaining how his craft could be he added:
“The notion of maybe something like the way ‘The Mandalorian’ is a new show in the Star Wars universe, you know what I mean? Something like the notion of this documentary crew doing a documentary about a different subject. That, I think, could be intriguing and creative. But I don’t even know what you would call that. I don’t know if that’s like a sister show or something. I don’t know what the term is. But it doesn’t feel like ‘reboot’ would be the appropriate term for that.”
Daniels mentioned The Mandalorian from Stars Wars indicating his inspiration from the franchise. However, he also shared that the spinoff could be compelling and innovative that match the standard of today’s spinoffs especially when it’s coming from the creator of The Office.
The Office is available on Prime Video.
