Sylvester Stallone undeniably generated the success he has today all by himself as the actor worked painstakingly when he became a household name and every fan started to call him Rocky. However, in his recent Netflix documentary Sly, he mentioned the traumatic relationship with his father and how things tore him apart after Stallone’s brother was left overwhelmed.

Sylvester Stallone Felt Crushed After Rocky‘s Success

The Netflix documentary Sly is the best to witness every important aspect of Sylvester Stallone‘s life and career if you’re a hardcore fan who saw him slaying roles in Rocky, Rambo, and The Expendables. However, like many successful star, Stallone had struggles with his family while he was hailed as Rocky. The Oscar-nominated actor mentioned how his brother Frank Stallone was traumatized soon after Rocky came out.

The Staying Alive star talked about his father being jealous of Sylvester Stallone and his success after Rocky brought havoc to their family. Frank Stallone said: “Unbeknownst to me, my career was just canceled overnight when Rocky came out. All of a sudden I became Rocky’s brother.” This distraught Stallone’s brother as he was gradually losing his identity.

The Expendables star shared: “It was hard on him. My brother is very very creative, and he was pretty traumatized by my success.” Sylvester Stallone rose to stardom the way Robert De Niro and Marlon Brandon were lauded and this was a bitter pill to swallow for his father with whom he had a tumultuous relationship. Frank Stallone said: “No one was expecting him to be, like, an American icon.” Stallone’s success turned out the way he never expected and revealed that he didn’t expect this will happen in his family.

From talking about his mother’s struggles while she was pregnant to a tumultuous and hard childhood with his father, Sylvester Stalone didn’t step back to reveal his life’s journey in Sly. The 77-year-old shared how he went from a nontraditional lead to an action superstar and Oscar-nominated actor and writer. However, the success did not erase the scars that Stallone’s “physical” father gave him since his childhood. The Escape Plan star said:

“I was raised by a very physical father. Nothing was ever settled verbally. It was usually a physical ultimatum.”

Stallone recalled being physically and verbally abused since his childhood by Frank Stallone Sr. who was a beautician and hairdresser. The Cliffhanger star mentioned in his documentary: “I was no stranger to serious pain.” talking about his father who even grabbed his 13-year-old son off a horse midway through a polo match. Stallone and his brother talked about their mother as well who wasn’t as harsh as their father was.
