Fans must wonder how difficult it would be for the cast of FRIENDS to even think of ending the hit sitcom. However, little did you know that Jennifer Aniston was the first to think of its end.
FRIENDS concluded in the best way possible after engaging fans for years. The hit sitcom is still lauded for its storyline and cast, and fans have even made popular memes out of it which will forever remind us of how incredible the show was. What’s more interesting to know is that Jennifer Aniston aka Rachel was the first to think of its end.
Jennifer Aniston Was The First Who Wanted FRIENDS To End
The ending of FRIENDS made every fan emotional and was indeed the best conclusion we could ever witness. The main cast includes late actor Matthew Perry as Chandler whose sudden death has left the world in pain, Jennifer Aniston as Rachel, who was not just a co-star to Perry, but also his close pal, Matt LeBlanc as Joey, Courtney Cox aka Monica, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe, and David Schwimmer as Ross.
In his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Matthew Perry mentioned that it was Jennifer Aniston who was more concerned for their biggest TV show to end. He wrote:
“The truth was, we were all ready for ‘Friends’ to be done. For a start, Jennifer Aniston had decided that she didn’t want to do the show anymore, and as we all made decisions as a group, that meant we all had to stop.”
He explained that Aniston wanted to focus on other different roles, including doing exciting movies. Perry and Aniston knew each other even before they became co-stars. The late actor had a huge crush on The Break Up star as she was already a renowned figure in the world of entertainment, but Jennifer Aniston refused to be more than friends with Matthew Perry, leaving him heartbroken.
Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry’s Relationship Was Closest Among the Cast
Matthew Perry has penned down about all his FRIENDS cast members who became an important part of his life beyond the screen. But Jennifer Aniston was the closest to the 17 Again actor and after his death, she has been dealing with immense sorrow and discomfort. Perry wrote in his memoir: “She was the one that reached out the most. I’m really grateful to her for that.” He shared that Aniston was a major contributor during his battle with drugs and alcoholism.
According to a Mirror, a source mentioned:
“They became like brother and sister, and it was probably the closest relationship between any of the cast, bar Jen and Courteney, of course. They hung out together during those early days, partied, and would even go as far as to seek each other’s opinions on who to date and what jobs to take.”
Even though the whole cast has been shattered by their friend’s unexpected demise, Jennifer Aniston remains the most affected as she also lost her father a year ago.
FRIENDS is available on Netflix.
