GTA 6: Rockstar Finally Says The Game Is In Development
After so many years of only rumors and reports, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed that it will be working on a new GTA game, even revealing to the happiness of many fans that it’s “well underway”.
In a new press release, a Rockstar spokesperson wrote:
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.
On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”
It was earlier reported by IGN reported that GTA 6 – if that is what the game ends up being called – was underway back in 2020, but it was a long way from its release. More reports suggested the game to arrive either in 2024 or 2025.
Talking about the game itself, Rockstar isn’t revealing anything right now, or even committing to when it will say more. Older reports have revealed that the first version of GTA 6 could be smaller than GTA 5, with some updates used to build on it over the course of time. Some reports also say that the new GTA game will return to a Miami-inspired Vice City setting, while some fans feel that Rockstar had just snuck a first screenshot into the GTA Trilogy remasters.
In 2021, Rockstar patented an all-new system meant for NPC navigation, which many fans believe can be used in the next GTA game. The whole system is pre-designed for more realistic traffic behavior, even creating more life-like road users – with a view to making it useful in a “multiplayer network gaming community.”
This new game will be the first GTA game released after Rockstar’s co-founder Dan Houser departed from the company. Houser was the one who helped write all the GTA games from 2 to 5, alongside the Bully, Red Dead series, and even Max Payne 3. However, his brother, Sam Houser, is working on the project.
