Post-Credit Scenes: Explained
A new team of heroes is assuming the mantle now that the former Guardians have temporarily disbanded. In the opening end credits scene, Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova), and Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) are gathered in a desert, prepared to face an adversary. Also, we can see Rocket, who is serving as the Guardians’ newly appointed leader.
The young girl saved from the High Evolutionary’s ship is identified as Phyla-Vell (Kai Zen) on the scene. She is a comic book character who could appear at some point in the MCU. The new team comes together as they emerge unexpectedly to get ready for battle as the all-new Guardians.
The second scene occurs right before the credits roll, when Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is back at home with his grandfather and they are both eating breakfast. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is mentioned in a newspaper that his grandfather was reading. It also mentions Kevin Bacon being abducted by aliens. As the scene comes to an end, the screen announces that Star-Lord will return.
As a result, even though the original group of Guardians may no longer exist, a new group has been put together to carry out the task of defending the galaxy. Although it is unknown if Quill will rejoin them once again, at least we are aware that his story is still ongoing.
There is no doubt that some of the characters are just getting started, so we will have to wait a little while before learning more about their fresh adventures.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 opens in theaters on May 5.
