British actress Hayley Atwell starred as Margaret Elizabeth (Peggy) Carter for the first time in the 2011 American superhero movie Captain America: The First Avenger. She played the role alongside Chris Evans, who played the titular character of Captain America or Steve Rogers. The Mission Impossible actress has reprised the character of Peggy Carter quite a number of times in MCU, and she is not very happy about how Peggy was treated in Doctor Strange 2.

Through the years, Hayley Atwell has reprised her role as Peggy Carter multiple times. She played a much older version of the character Peggy for a second time in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The movie was a sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and was hence set long into the future.

Although Atwell’s character passed away off-camera in the movie Captain America: Civil War, she has appeared briefly in a couple of Marvel movies through the years. These movies include Avengers: Age of Ultron and the first installment of the Ant-Man franchise. Both of these were released in 2015.

Atwell even reprised her role in an ABC series named Agent Carter. However, the series was cancelled by ABC after just two seasons. Despite numerous fan petitions and Hayley Atwell’s strong wish to play the role again, the show had to be called off.
