“He absolutely loves the John Wick movies”: Samuel L. Jackson is More Interested in Working with Keanu Reeves Than Doing a Nick Furry Movie
One of the most talented actors of our time, Samuel L. Jackson, is most known for playing Nick Furry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Through the characters he has played on screen, Jackson has been able to build up a devoted fan base throughout the world.
Jackson just had an appearance in the Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which follows Nick Fury and Talos, portrayed by Ben Mendelsohn, as they uncover a plot by a gang of shape-shifting Skrulls to conquer Earth. When asked once if he would be interested in acting in a Nick Furry film, Samuel L. Jackson replied that he might not, but he chose this franchise over the spin-off film based on his well-known character. Find out now
Samuel L. Jackson’s desire to work with Keanu Reeves
Samuel L. Jackson is no doubt an exceptional actor who has entertained the audience over the years with his portrayal of Nick Furry along with other characters that he plays on-screen. But there is more to the actor than playing SHIELD’s agent.
Back in 2017, Simon Thompson, the co-host of Popcorn Talk show, shared with co-host Jeff Sneider during a conversation that Jackson would pick doing a John Wick movie starring Keanu Reeves over doing a Nick Furry movie. Thompson said he asked Jackson about his role in Avengers: Infinity War but he wouldn’t confirm if he was in it or not. The host mentioned that they got to talk about the spin-off movies for the characters, including Black Widow, to which he asked him, “What about a Nick Furry movie?”
Thompson said,
“He was actually less interested in that than he was in the idea that he had floated with me twice now; he wants to do wanted a Nick Furry movie, John Wick 3 with Lawrence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves. He absolutely loves the John Wick movies.”
He further added that Jackson wants IN into the John Wick franchise and would do anything to be in the franchise because he loves the franchise so much. Samuel L. Jackson is yet to appear in any John Wick movies.
Samuel L. Jackson is glad the Nick Furry spin-off movie did not happen
During an interview ahead of his show Secret Invasion, Samuel L. Jackson went ahead to question his character’s disappearance from the Black Panther movies. He said,
“If all the Avengers are f***ing fighting each other, where’s their guardian? Where’s that dude who comes in and goes ‘Alright, everybody, go to your rooms. I’ll be in there to talk to you in a minute’”.
He also added,
“Feels like I’ve been playing him forever. If I had it my way, I would’ve been in every Marvel movie because, I mean, he is Nick Fury, he knows everything that’s going on.”
He also noted in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that starring in the Disney + series Secret Invasion, which allowed the audience to have a closer look and devote hours to Nick Furry, has been a much better option than starring in a spin-off movie. He said,
“People have always been saying, well, we need a Nick Fury movie. I always thought an hour and a half, two hours, is not enough to do a Nick Fury movie. So, to have six hours to explore this story is great”.
However, the series failed to make up for the expectations of the fans, mainly because of the tedious, slow-paced plotlines, uninteresting villains, and more. It failed to make an impact on the audience as the show was expected to, following the finale episode, Secret Invasion earned the title of Marvel’s worst-rated Disney+ show.
Samuel L. Jackson’s only concern was; he didn’t want Nick Furry to die
Despite playing the character of a secret agent for many years, Samuel L. Jackson notes that every time he is a part of an MCU project he is constantly worried that the makers would kill Nick Furry at some point. During his interview with Rolling Stone, he mentioned,
“My biggest concern with Marvel was trying to keep them from killing me more than anything else.”
The actor pointed out that every time he receives a call from Marvel he is convinced that his beloved character Nick Furry is going to meet his fate with death. He explained,
“When they called me in to tell me what was going on, I always thought they were trying to kill me. They didn’t let me go to Wakanda, which I was kind of upset about. How could Nick Fury not know about Wakanda? They said, ‘Well, you do know but you can’t go’”.
