“He grew bitter about not getting parts as a gay man”: Kevin Spacey’s Lawyers Claim Anthony Rapp Sexual Abuse Allegations Are False, Blames ‘House of Cards’ Actor For Not Being Successful
When the #MeToo wave ushered in, one of the major celebrities whose name got muddied was House of Cards star Kevin Spacey. Several allegations of s*xual misconduct were levied against the actor, bringing his Oscar-winning career to a halt. Among the first few people who came forward with their stories were Anthony Rapp, who claimed that he was assaulted by Spacey back when he was a teenager.
5 years after Rapp’s coming out with his heartrending account, the two parties find themselves sitting across each other in a courtroom with accusations and defenses flying in the air.
The allegation against Kevin Spacey
Two years ago, Anthony Rapp slammed Kevin Spacey with a $40 million civil lawsuit for s*xual misconduct done in 1986 when Spacey was 26 and Rapp was 14.
Rapp, 50 shared that back in 1986, he was at Spacey’s apartment for a gathering where he felt out of place. He went into the bedroom to quietly watch television away from the crowd. He soon found out that everyone had left and he was alone with Spacey in the apartment. A completely wasted Spacey came into the bedroom and stopped Rapp from walking out the door by blocking it. He then picked up the kid and placed him on the bed and climbed on top of him.

Rapp’s legal team shared with the court that the 14-year-old was “frozen” as he “felt the weight of Spacey”. Eventually, Rapp managed to break out and hide in the bathroom which was, for the boy, “a safe place, a place to retreat”. He then somehow escaped the apartment but got scarred for life.
But Spacey’s legal team presented the floor plan of his then-apartment, claiming that it was simply a one-room studio, rendering Rapp’s confession dubious. Spacey’s attorney, Jennifer L. Keller, said, “The story only works if you invent a wall and a door.”
Spacey’s attorney went on to further insinuate Rapp as well.
Anthony Rapp antagonized by Kevin Spacey’s attorney
Spacey’s legal team has denied the allegations levied against him by Rapp, claiming that he is simply jealous of Spacey’s success and frustrated with his own static career. Spacey’s attorney, Keller, suggested in her opening argument, “He blames Mr. Spacey for everything that hasn’t gone well in his life… [Rapp] peaked around the year 2000 and he grew bitter about not getting parts as an openly gay man.”
Keller further suggested that the assault that Rapp was accusing Spacey of actually never happened, adding that it was simply a story a kid concocted and ended up believing with all his heart.
