James Gunn, who has mastered the superhero genre and is renowned for bringing his own style to his projects, promised that his upcoming ‘Supermanproject would stand apart from his other works. But fans are uncertain as to whether or not the upcoming film would fall under Gunn’s distinctive comedy style because of his notoriety.

However, the director recently allayed fans’ worries by announcing that his upcoming DC project won’t be a comedy but rather a traditional superhero tale. Gunn has, indeed, put himself in an intriguing situation. In addition to being the DCU’s Kevin Feige, he also chose to pen and helm at least two of the first five films set in this new world.

He is currently getting ready to introduce the new DC Universe with Superman: Legacy. He has been sharing information, expressing himself, and presenting ideas to people all over the world.

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy Bombing Could Fail DCU

James Gunn has revealed there may be two Superman movies on the way — at the same time — in an intriguing twist to his new beginning at DC Studios. With Gunn’s interpretation of the superhero, Superman Legacy, DC Films’ upcoming phase is set to start.

The movie, according to rumors, would be set in the 1900s and feature a ‘Black Superman’.

It would have been reasonable to assume that Gunn’s upcoming film would fail, but he is eager to give DC a new beginning after receiving conflicting reviews from critics (for the weak writing and characterization) in his earlier works.

After Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn is expected to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and devote all of his attention to the DC Extended Universe with his upcoming film, Superman: Legacy. But this isn’t the first time that Gunn has had the chance to create a Superman project.

In fact, in 2018, before he was hired to direct The Suicide Squad, Gunn was given the opportunity to create a Superman film. Well, an industry insider claims:

“He [James Gunn] isn’t making a movie. He’s making a universe-launcher.”

He Deeply Relates To The Superman Character

James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will be the first significant work to be released in the new universe after Henry Cavill departed from the role of ‘Superman’, and the DC universe will get a reset. He reflected on the significance and his attachment to the upcoming project while explaining why he can so easily identify with the character of Superman.

“I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am. He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s f**king Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”

Moreover, Gunn also promised that his Superman project would be distinct from his other works, despite having mastered the superhero genre and being famous for bringing his own style to his projects.

James Gunn is a genius at creating characters with a tremendous amount of emotional depth and brilliant drama, despite the fact that his films are best known for their brilliant comedies.

Superman: Legacy will premiere on July 11, 2025.
