Winona Ryder has spoken out in defense of her former partner against allegations of abuse made by his ex-wife. Ryder filed a declaration in Virginia, saying that she does not believe Depp is a violent person.

She said, “I am aware of the violence allegations that have been made public for the last few years by Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard.” The Beetlejuice actress begins her statement,

“I knew Johnny very well years ago. We were together as a couple for four years, and I counted him as my best friend, and as close to me as family. I count our relationship as one of the more significant relationships of my life,”

Ryder, who was engaged to Depp in 1990, said, “The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved. I cannot wrap my head around these accusations.” While acknowledging the importance of speaking from her own experience, she expressed shock, confusion, and upset at the accusations against Depp, she stated,

“He was never, never violent towards me. He was never, never abusive at all towards me. He has never been violent or abusive towards anybody I have seen. I truly and honestly only know him as a good man — an incredibly loving, extremely caring guy who was so very protective of me and the people that he loves, and I felt so very, very safe with him.”

Ryder concludes, “I do not want to call anyone a liar but from my experience of Johnny, it is impossible to believe that such horrific allegations are true. I find it extremely upsetting knowing him as I do.”

Mr. Deeds’s player defense of Depp has sparked debate over the authenticity of Heard’s allegations.

Johnny Depp And Winona Ryder’s Former Romantic Relationship

Johnny Depp and Ryder were once examples of young love in Hollywood during the 1990s. Depp, a notable lover boy, had been involved in several high-profile relationships, such as Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis, both of whom maintain cordial relationships with Depp despite their breakups. However, it was Ryder who captured Depp’s heart, and once left us emotional with her declaration of love for the Pirates of the Caribbean star.

For those unaware, both began their romantic journey when Ryder was just a teenager. The couple met at the premiere of Great Balls of Fire! in June 1989 and started dating just two months later. They got engaged in July 1990, and their intense, passionate relationship lasted for about three years.

They spoke fondly about each other in interviews, but their undeniable connection came to an end in 1993, leaving Ryder heartbroken. She spoke about the aftermath of their split in an interview saying,

“When I met Johnny, I was a pure virgin. He changed that. He was my first everything. My first real kiss. My first real boyfriend. My first fiancé. The first guy I had s*x with. So he’ll always be in my heart. Forever. Kind of funny, that word.”

In another interview, Depp took the responsibility for the passing of his relationship with her. He disclosed,

“It’s very hard to have a personal life in this town. In my relationship with Winona, it was my mistake to be as open as we were. But I thought if we were honest it would destroy that curiosity monster. Instead, it fed it, gave people license to feel they were part of it.”

Despite their split, Ryder and Depp remained close friends, and Heather’s performer even defended him during his highly publicized legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.
