“He’d say ‘f**k yea'”: Keanu Reeves is Super Stoked to Return in John Wick 5
“Solitude births legends”. In a world dominated by team-based franchises such as Fast and Furious, Marvel Avengers, and DC’s Justice League, John Wick is alone. Keanu Reeves’s portrayal of John Wick gave birth to an iconic hitman who redefined the action narrative with its neo-noir elegance. Amid the frenzy for superheroes, this lone man’s enigmatic swag has captured hearts uniquely.
As evidenced by the conclusion of Keanu Reeve’s assassin story, the most recent entry of John Wick: Chapter 4 was yet another smash with its breathtaking sequences. However the director of the film, Chad Stahelski, occasionally hinted at the return of John Wick 5 in the Happy Sad Confused podcast
Chad Stahelski hints at Keanu Reeves’ potential return as John Wick 5
In the recent Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Chad Stahelski expressed his intention of bringing back John Wick: Chapter 5. He said that Keanu Reeves would return to the franchise if he asked, and the director even confirmed that he had a direct conversation with him about the idea of a potential return to the legendary role. Though Chapter Four is evidently a farewell to the assassin’s journey, with Ian McShane’s Winston and Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King visiting the character’s grave, discussion is on the way about the character’s fifth reprisal, as hinted by the director.
Yeah, Keanu and I have talked. Keanu, if you ask him right now, ‘Would you do John Wick 5?’ He’d be like, ‘Fuck yeah’. But then he’d look and go, ‘Well, what is it? I have no f–king idea.’ That’s all. Believe me. It’s not like, ‘We’re going to figure it out today.’ Like, man, we’re going to do our other stuff for a little bit, but if I was driving in the car or walking the dog and an idea hit me, within 30 seconds I’d be on the phone to Keanu and we’d be riffing.
The director also indicated that the sheer idea of Chapter 5 won’t just come out of enthusiasm or curiosity; he also emphasizes the need for concrete ideas and plans. Stahelski’s mention of the uncertainty of the film’s details suggests that while there is interest and potential if he is clicked by a strong idea, he will definitely plan to bring John Wick back. He also added, above all, if Reeves would instantly accept, he would jump at the chance, even without knowing the movie’s specifics.
Unused concepts hint possible future for John Wick 5
He mentioned the possibility of incorporating unused set pieces and ideas from the earlier John Wick. He added that there have been many unused set pieces that would increase the chance of a future installment. “We have a lot of set pieces, we have a lot of ideas, and we have a lot of things that we didn’t go to or didn’t do before. I do not doubt that we would come up with a lot of great pieces”.
The previous installation John Wick Chapter 4 not only earned critical acclaim like its predecessors but also emerged as one of the highest-grossing sequels with $432.22 million worldwide. With the success of Chapter 4, we can’t just dismiss the chance to see Reeves for a recap with his action-packed allure.
John Wick franchise is to expand with a spinoff movie
With the uncertainty around John Wick 5, fans can calm down that the John Wick franchise is not dissipating anymore. Keanu Reeves will one more time reprise the role in the upcoming spinoff The Continental, which takes place between Chapters 3: Parabellum and 4. The Continental is a 1970s-set event series centered around a young man named Winston, which will be streaming on Peacock next month. Additionally, Ballerina will be out in June 2024 is another project on the horizon. Besides director Stahelski, has also taken up various projects, including the Rainbow Six movie, the long-awaited Highlander reboot, and a film adaptation of Ghosts of Tsushima.
