Hollywood Bad Boy Steven Seagal’s $16M Fortune in Jeopardy as America Plans to Boycott Him for Supporting Russia
Actor Steven Seagal is a complete enigma who is almost impossible to understand. Now that he has sided with Russia in the conflict with Ukraine, Steven Seagal may be subject to U.S. government sanctions. The actor was one of six individuals for whom sanctions were proposed due to his support of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine and his endorsement of President Vladimir Putin’s “aggressive occupation policy.” Putin personally gave The Patriot actor his Russian passport when he was naturalized as a Russian citizen in 2016.
Why Steven Seagal Could Face U.S. Sanctions?
Sanctions have been demanded as a result of Seagal backing the Russian military operation in Ukraine and his attendance in Moscow in April to celebrate his 70th birthday with Putin’s friends—whom he referred to as a “great leader“—in this city.
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstorm received a list of individuals who should be sanctioned in February from a group that comprised prominent US Congressmen, MEPs, and Ukrainian legislators.
The suggestion was made in a letter addressed to Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. It was sent by the Commission on Security and Cooperation for Europe, which also added the signatures of representatives from Estonia, Ukraine, the European Parliament, Poland, and Congressman Joe Wilson.

Just weeks after Ukrainian POWs were slain in a bombing, Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko blasted Seagal for visiting wounded Russian soldiers in the occupied Olenivka.
“He visited the wounded Russian military—who, by the way, went to Ukraine to kill civilians… where our prisoners of war are kept,” Goncharenko said.
In addition, Goncharenko argued that “those who are guilty of the crime of aggression against Ukraine” must be held accountable and “pay their price.”
In a film shown on the Russian state-owned TV network Zvezda, Seagal confirmed Moscow’s assertions after visiting the ruins.
“Seagal arrived and began to whitewash the whole story, accusing us of shelling. He plays the dirty games of the Kremlin and supports the war,” Goncharenko said.
The MP went on to say that Putin was advancing his narratives in the propaganda campaign against Ukraine by enlisting the aid of his famous pals.
What Steven Seagal Said On Russia vs. Ukraine Conflict
Vladimir Putin appointed Steven Seagal as a special envoy for Russia to strengthen relations with the US back in 2018. Seagal has gained notoriety recently due to his outspoken comments regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
The Hard to Kill actor, who was given a Russian passport by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2016 and consequently prohibited from entering Ukraine for five years, commented on the crisis in Ukraine, stating he views both sides “as one family.”
“Most of us have friends and family in Russia and Ukraine,” he told the outlet. “I look at both as one family and really believe it is an outside entity spending huge sums of money on propaganda to provoke the two countries to be at odds with each other.”
“My prayers are that both countries will come to a positive, peaceful resolution where we can live and thrive together in peace,” Seagal added.
Like Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Above the Law actor is also a skilled martial artist.
