‘Holocaust wasn’t about race’: The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Faces Full Force of Cancel Culture After Claiming Nazis Didn’t Specifically Target Jews, Also Killed People of African Descent
Whoopi Goldberg has always been at the center of media attention due to her remarks which continued to make ABC’s The View quite controversial as well. Having been known for making strong criticisms on various topics, she garnered attention once again when she stood steadfast on her holocaust remarks even after going through a vast ordeal.
After facing 10 months of suspension following her controversial remarks, she is back again with similar remarks. Her recent action might get her canceled from the industry at once.
Whoopi Goldberg Faced Criticism on Declaring That The Holocaust was “not about race”
Earlier this year, the 67-year-old TV host, Whoopi Goldberg in an episode of ABC’s The View shared that the Holocaust was not about race which lead to major backlash for her.
She shared at the time, “The Holocaust isn’t about race.”
When her co-host, Joy Behar responded to her claim, “Well, they considered Jews a different race,” she replied by stating, “It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about.”
Another attempted to state, “But it’s about a White supremacist going after Jews and Gypsies” to which she shared at the time,
“The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black, or White, cause Black ,White, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other.”
That holocaust remarks of her faced major backlash with many encouraging her to educate herself. Due to that, she faced suspension from her show for two weeks and later on issued an apology for her remarks.
Whoopi Goldberg’s Insensitive Remarks on Holocaust Yet Again
The American actor in an interview with UK’s The Sunday Times shared that the estimated 6 million Jews systematically killed in the holocaust led by Adolf Hitler was “white on white” violence, and added that the Jews were not targeted because of their race.
She shared,
“Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.”
She further claimed that the Nazis killed people of African descent because they were physically different. Not just that, she also mentioned that Jews had it easier as they would have easily blended in with White people and hid from the Nazis than Black people at the time of the Holocaust.
She added,
“It doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them. That was the point I was making.”
Since then, she has been called out by many for her insensitive holocaust remarks even though she had faced the backlash previously as well. It would only make her previous apology nothing but a showpiece as she did not learn from what happened earlier this year. With things going on, it won’t be a surprise if she would get canceled as many are willingly wishing for the same.
