Both Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams have had successful careers as actors. The former is best known for his roles in the films Crazy, Stupid, Love, La La Land, Blade Runner 2049, and other films. The latter is best known for portraying Regina George, the Mean Girl, in Mean Girls and other films like About Time, The Vow, Southpaw, Doctor Strange, etc.

But if the two actors are remembered together at all, it must be for their outstanding performances in the 2004 film The Notebook, in which they co-starred as Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun. The same-titled novel by Nicholas Sparks served as the basis for the film. However, Gosling and McAdams have a history together because they did begin dating after the filming, but while filming they did not like each other.

Ryan Gosling wanted Rachel McAdams to be kicked off The Notebook

Where the audience saw love between Allie and Noah, things between Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams weren’t exactly lovely while they were portraying the cult-classic movie. According to reports, things weren’t exactly what one can call smooth between the two of them, and the director, Nick Cassavetes, recalled that Gosling wanted the actress to be replaced.

“They were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me, and there’s 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’”

The director further described that the actors would engage in yelling matches behind the scenes and he took them to a room where they hatched their problems out and then the rest of the film was ‘smoother sailing’. He also said, “I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open.”
