“How do y’all all get together to bully a person?”: Kristen Wiig’s Ghostbusters Co-Star Reveals Horrible Racist Insults Hurled at Her Following Reboot
Celebrities are no strangers to racism, especially when they are involved in some famous movies in Hollywood. Leslie Jones, who was the co-star of renowned actress Kristen Wiig in a movie, was once caught in the crosshairs of prejudice.
Leslie Jones has opened up about the brutal racism she faced after working in a Paul Feig movie which was a different version of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. This reboot fell on deaf ears and fans weren’t content as they were after watching the first movie.
Leslie Jones Faced Harsh Racism Over The Ghostbusters Reboot
The 2016 movie Ghostbusters which was a reboot of Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters: Afterlife didn’t float Leslie Jones‘s boat. It was a hurtful experience for the Top Five star to receive brutal racism and death threats. Jones received a terrible amount of hateful and racially motivated messages over her involvement in the movie. The actress was cast along with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon. The Death To 2020 star recalled the hurtful experience in her new biography, Leslie F*cking Jones: A Memoir via Rolling Stone. Jones wrote:
“That night of July 18 was horrible, though. I remember crying and thinking, This is the first time I had ever seen it so bad. How do y’all all get together to bully a person? It wasn’t as if I’d committed a crime or something — I was being bullied over a movie, over playing a part in a movie. (I can’t believe I have to say this out loud.)
The Ghostbusters star’s experience was a bitter pill to swallow, but that was not enough to stop her. Leslie Jones is a bold personality who keeps her thoughts straight. The actress had to delete her X (earlier Twitter) account for 24 hours because the online trolling became harsh and unbearable. There were multiple attempts to hack JJone’s account, which she revealed in the biography. Leslie Jones broke into tears as those trolls and racist messages turned into death threats which were extremely troublesome for her mental health.
Leslie Jones Was Sent Video of Her Being Hanged
The Lottery Ticket star revealed almost everything in her biography about the racist and misogynistic trolls that turned into deadly threats. Jones wrote,
“I was being sent films of being hanged, of white guys jacking off on my picture, saying, ‘You fuc*ing n—–. We going to kill you”.
After all the trolling and threatening messages, Jones messaged Jark Dorsey, who was the CEO of Twitter at that time, requesting people to monitor her account.
In the Ghostbusters reboot, Jones played subway worker Patty Tolan, unlike the other three actresses in the movie who were cast as scientists. After encountering paranormal activities in the subway, Tolan joins the team of three scientists and helps them battle against the ghost. Leslie Jones’s character is smart and intelligent with a unique perspective to see things and help her team members resist the supernatural happening in New York City.
