Jackson Jr., who played his father in a crime drama, explained that he had to work hard to get where he is right now. He explained that he did not take help from his father as he left his agency and found a team of his own. He talked about his professionalism and thanked his father’s teachings as they helped him in becoming successful. Jackson Jr. also claimed that nepotism shouldn’t be something to be ashamed of, as one should use that opportunity to expand their parents’ empire.

Rapper Ice Cube‘s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., recently talked about New York magazine’s “Year of the Nepo Baby” cover story which covers the topics of nepotism. Jackson Jr. played his father in the crime drama Straight Outta Compton. He also revealed in one of his tweets that it was his father’s dream to see his eldest son playing his role in the 2015 biopic. At the time, he was in college and worked hard for the role. He wrote,

“I accepted the challenge. And auditioned for two years before getting the role. After that, it was up to me, [my father] couldn’t hold my hand through my career. I had to get my ass up and make it work.”

Ice Cube shares four children, Darrell, 29, daughter Karima, 28, and son Shareef, 27, with wife Kimberly Woodruff. They also had another daughter, Deja, who unfortunately died in 2020 at the age of 27.

Ice Cube’s son explained why he left his father’s agency

In a series of tweets, O’Shea Jackson Jr. explained that he left his father’s agency and decided to find a team of his own. He wrote,

“From the roles I chose. The work ethic I put into them. My professionalism on sets and promo tours. Even leaving HIS agency and going to find a team of my own. Once the door was opened it was up to me to walk through it and thrive.”

He was also grateful for his father’s teachings as he explained that none of this would’ve been possible “without the love of [his] father.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. believes that nepotism is not a bad thing

O’Shea Jackson Jr. further explained that nepotism shouldn’t be labeled as a bad thing as it has “been happening for centuries.” He looks at it as an opportunity to build an “empire,” not “a shadow for you to get out of.” He further added,

“Do not let anyone get it in your head that you should feel bad or your accomplishments are less than what they are. Bust your ass! Do the work! And leave something for your kids to do the same thing!”

He concluded by saying that everyone should work hard in order to make more opportunities for future generations.
