Johnny Depp Returns to Directing After 25 Years
After the trial that took over the internet by storm, Depp is back with multiple projects on the line. On Monday, the Sleepy Hollow actor announced that he will be directing a movie about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. This will be Johnny Depp‘s first role as a director since his directing debut back in 1997, The Brave. Depp also acted in the movie along with Marlon Brando.
He will be co-producing the movie along with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
What’s the Movie About?
The movie Modigliani will be about the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. It is based on a play by Dennis McIntyre from the 1980s. The movie will follow the painter and sculptor for 48 hours in Paris in 19167 when he was unable to sell any of his work and how that became a turning point in his life.
In a recent interview, Johnny Depp said, “The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I’m incredibly honored and truly humbled to bring to the screen.” He added that the Italian sculptor lived a life with great perils and troubles but eventually succeeded. He further added, “a universally human story all viewers can identify with.”
The movie’s production will probably begin in Europe in the spring of 2023. Other than the directing role, Johnny Depp is all set to appear in Jeanne du Barry which started filming in late July. It seems like things are finally looking up for Depp after his infamous trial with Amber Heard.
