“I am ready to bring her back”: Jennifer Love Hewitt Confirms She Will Reprise her Role in $125 Million 1997 Film’s Sequel if it Gets Greenlit
Jennifer Love Hewitt began her journey as an entertainer as a young kid. However, it wasn’t until she was cast in the Disney Channel variety show Kids Incorporated that she earned recognition. She became a teen idol by 1995 with her performance in the Fox show Party of Five.
Hewitt is best known for her performance in the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer. It is still remembered as one of the best horror films, and recently, the actress has revealed that she would reprise her role as Julie James for another movie if it happens.
Jennifer Love Hewitt on Returning as Julie James in I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel
Jennifer Love Hewitt received nominations for several accolades for he performance in Part of Five. Then, she starred as Julie James in the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer, which follows four young friends who become the target of a killer a year after they tried to cover up a car accident in which they might have killed a man.
Based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 eponymous novel, the movie drew inspiration from the urban legend The Hook. It earned $125 million against a production budget of $17 million. A sequel I Still Know What You Did Summer was released in 2016, but did not feature any of the original cast. However, in February 2023, Entertainment Tonight reported that a direct sequel of the original movie was in the works.
Recently, while talking to Entertainment Tonight, Hewitt revealed that if the third movie is made, she will bring Julie back.
If it all works out and it happens, I am ready to bring her back with 26 years of angst, knowledge, kickassery, which I’m turning into a word, and have some fun.
She also revealed that she is scared of reprising the role because of how much time has passed since she first played the part.
Jennifer Love Hewitt Doesn’t Know How She Will Feel If The Movie Happens
Along with the Scream franchise, I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is the cult classic of the slasher genre. Even after two decades since the first movie, it still holds a special place in the hearts of the fans of that genre.
Reprising a role Hewitt played 26 years ago must come with challenges of its own. Speaking of her feelings about it, she said:
If it truly comes together I don’t even know how I’m gonna feel except extremely overwhelmed and grateful, but it’s wild to think about… It’s nice to know that people are excited at the possibility. I think it would be really fun if it came together.
While specific details of the cast and plot of the sequel are not known, not so long ago, Screen Rant reported that the movie is confirmed to be released on July 18, 2025. However, since any other details are not available, it would be best to take that information with a grain of salt.
I Know What You Did Last Summer is available for streaming on Fubo TV, Paramount+, and Showtime.
